Donc en gros, Steel Battalion c'est trop bien, mais t'as pas assez d'argent pour y jouert et de toutes façopns, ua plus de stockS. Comme les air max.

It’s a shame that many of the missions are fairly small in size and this game really could have used a random mission generator, although that’s no reason to frown on what has been given and the huge number of difficulty levels. Unlockable goodies also abound, which helps add to replay and give a reason to do better in missions beyond simply bragging rights. I consider it a miracle that Capcom released this game overseas, and it would be a travesty for any fan of giant mech games to miss out on such a beautiful experience. If you see it, grab it now before they’re all gone.

Steel Battalion will never get boring because of all the money that you spent on it. I wouldn't waste $200 on a game and not play it. The game spans 30 hours of game play, but you will be playing the game much longer. Much longer meaning all the time.

Overall, Steel Battalion provides hours of entertainment. I know a couple of people, myself included, who have acquired what we have kindly deemed “Battle Butt” and “War-Back,” acquired from sitting in the same uncomfortable, hunched-over position for hours on end. We do this because we care. Okay, okay ... we also do it because we have an intense hatred for the Hai Shi Dao. The only drawback about this game is that it is rather difficult to find a place to store the controller while it's not in use.

Steel Battalion puts you in the driver's seat, and you'd better pay attention because if you fail to hit eject as your mech is destroyed, your whole game will be deleted, no matter how much progress you've made. Yes, it's overkill, but that's what makes it Steel Battalion. Only hardcore gamers need apply.

De review windt er vermoed ik geen doekjes rond: de indruk die Steel Battalion op me heeft nagelaten is zonder meer uniek. Het tilt op zijn eentje gamen naar een hoger niveau, in die mate zelfs dat je haast kan spreken van een echte ervaring. Dit is geen game voor iedereen, zelfs niet als je het hoge prijskaartje dat eraan vast hangt even wegdenkt, maar dat was dan ook niet de intentie van Capcom. Zij wilden een verregaande mechsimulatie creëren, zonder toegevingen naar de verwende massa toe. Het etiquette "Hardcore" is hier zonder meer op zijn plaats, al is het een term die ik niet graag in de mond neem. De aanschaf van dit totaalpakket is een aanslag op je portefeuille, maar elke euro (van de 200tal in totaal) is zijn geld waard. Naast de immense single player komt er immers in de nabije toekomst ook een online add on voor Steel Battalion, zodat je een geavanceerde oorlog kan voeren over het Xbox Live netwerk.

Verdammt, warum muss man erst mal 200 hart verdiente EU-Dollars ausgeben, um in den Genuss von Steel Battalion zu kommen? Ohne den überdimensionalen Controller geht nämlich gar nichts und ohne den würde das Spiel sicher nicht mal halb so viel Spaß machen. Somit werden sich wohl nur Freaks und Sammler auf die in Deutschland 500 Exemplare stürzen. Reich werden die Entwickler dadurch nicht, aber mehr als ein Prestigeobjekt kann Steel Battalion auch nicht sein.

In this game you’ll pilot giant robots called vertical tanks which you’ll be piloting through 2 modes. Campaign, where you embark on a series of missions and the other mode is free mission, where you can replay your favorite boards once you beat them in Campaign. Of course campaign is the main focus; you’ll play over 20 missions, most of them though boil down to “destroy the enemy VT”. You’d think it’d get repetitive, but it never really does thanks to the games many features. If I do have one complaint, it’d have to be that the game gets too hard… too quickly. Yes, around the 2nd or 3rd mission, you’ll already be grinding your teeth.

Steel Battalion is a mech game for mech fans. It’s going to appeal in its purest form, to the purest fanatics. Collectors will snatch this one up just to own it, and it’s sure to become a cult classic. The game has its share of problems, and the asking price is a lot to ask from the general public, but this game isn’t about them. Anybody who’s a mech fan in the slightest needs to at least play Steel Battalion.

Again we see size matters in Steel Battalion because the bigger your television is (or maybe the closer you sit to it), the more impressed you'll be with the game's visuals. Marvelous animation, a consistent stylized look to the VTs and above average particle effects do plenty to offset the extremely limited draw distance. The fact that enemies and objects will often be drawn in at the last second is especially disturbing because it can have a direct effect on gameplay.

The game's various VTs are grouped into three categories, or "generations," each with a unique cockpit layout and varying combat abilities, such as firing rate and turning speed. (Most useful is the sidestep maneuver, which allows the VT to execute a strafe-dash and avoid incoming projectiles.) The cockpits are somewhat overcrowded, with various readouts hogging roughly half the screen, although you can acquire a code (after logging 55 hours of play!) for an unobstructed view. Steel Battalion allows you to change your VT armaments before a mission, but you won't find the infinite customization of Armored Core; the focus here is on the experience of combat.

Für Freaks, die schon alles gesehen haben, bietet der Controller von Steel Battalion eine willkommene Abwechslung. Und das Steuergerät ist auch das Einzige, was einen ins Spiel zieht und einem ein absolutes Mittendrin-Gefühl beschert. Denn das Missionsdesign wird auf Dauer sehr eintönig und bietet wenig Variationen. Mech aussuchen, ab ins Krisengebiet und alles niedermähen heißt die Devise. Zudem bekommt man die eigentlich ansprechende Grafik nur in einem viel zu kleinen Ausschnitt präsentiert, um sie wirklich genießen zu können. Wer die absolute Mech-Sim sucht und ein entsprechend großes Spiele-Budget hat, wird mit Steel Battalion trotzdem nicht enttäuscht werden. Wer allerdings nach einem Action-Kracher Ausschau hält, ist mit dem Simulationsflair denkbar schlecht bedient und kommt in Gefahr, den pompösen Controller verstauben zu lassen. Ein gut gemeinter Versuch, eine vergleichsweise kleine Zielgruppe zufrieden zu stellen, doch spielerisch verbesserungsfähig.

Ce qui nous plaît le plus avec Steel Battalion, c'est de voir que Capcom est allé au bout de ses envies. L'éditeur a voulu produire une manette de folie, il y est parvenu. Il a voulu développer un jeu qui exploite parfaitement l'accessoire, il l'a fait aussi. La combinaison des deux donne un titre unique en son genre chaudement recommandé pour les amateurs de nouvelles sensations.

Steel Battalion is a single-player-only, mission-based game. You'll start out each mission with a text-based briefing and a loadout process that lets you select a VT and outfit it with weapons. Once you're in your VT, you'll have to go through a start-up process. This consists of a series of button presses. One closes the cockpit, one starts the ignition. Then you must flip five switches and hit the start button when all five power bars have crossed a certain threshold. The start-up process is pretty impressive, and it does a lot for the game's atmospheric feel, though doing the exact same thing at the start of every mission causes the whole process to lose its charm after some time.

Totalt sett är det upplevelsen som trots allt får mig att återkomma till Steel Battalion. Spelet är för kort och onlinestöd borde finnas, där man verkligen kan avgöra vem som är den bäste mechpiloten. Nå, en uppföljare med fler uppdrag samt onlinestöd lär ju vara på väg. Till dess får jag väl nöja mig med att klara spelet varv efter varv i strävan efter att verkligen kunna traktera den jättelika kontrollen. För när Steel Battalion med Live-stöd och en rejäl story kommer, då har vi antagligen det ultimata mechspelet. Tills vidare får man nöja sig med att bara få en jävligt bra mechupplevelse hemma i vardagsrummet. Och det är inte heller så illa. Men värt det höga priset blir det först om man verkligen är ett mechfan. För övriga är det bäst att avstå, så märkvärdigt är faktiskt inte spelet i dagsläget.

Steel Battalion na pierwszego Xboxa to całkiem ciekawa opcja, o ile kogoś stać na kupno. Nie ukrywam, że jest to pozycja wyłącznie dla pasjonatów, bo gracz niedzielny na widok kontrolera się po prostu peszy. Niestety cena zestawu wciąż huśta się w okolicy ceny wyjściowej produktu (w USA około 200$), skutecznie odstraszając potencjalnych klientów.

On the whole, Steel Battalion just doesn't feel like it's worth £129.99. It's a month on and we're not as thrilled by the mostly plastic controller any more. It's big, it flashes and it has that intangible coolness to it, but it'll quickly gather dust and it really does monopolise your living room. And although the game itself is cleverly built in places with nice touches (like forcing you to spend credits wisely, trading off mech features against the ability to ship in supplies mid-mission; and the way the game punishes you for resetting before it can save by stripping you of your mech), you can't escape the technical limitations, the little niggles, the frustration of having to start over every time your flick-and-tap skills desert you, and having to perform that boot-up sequence every single time, and the stupidity of Daytona-level pop-up in an Xbox-exclusive game.

Ultimately, you're paying for the controller more than anything, but unless you're a truly hard-core fan with more money than sense it doesn't hide the fact that the gameplay isn't that inspiring. Yes, the thought of owning such an huge set-up is rather pleasing, but take that away and what you're left with probably isn't so awe-inspiring.
