Despite its change in perspective, Ghost Recon 2 remains to be a solid action-packed shooter that will make you proud you own a Xbox. It’s clear that UbiSoft does not want to stray from the series beginnings, something that will surely relieve those fans who stuck by the games, but also give us something new as well. It’s a good effort that certainly pays off here. Buy this one if you like your tactical military shooters challenging but addictive.

The Ghosts are back and with their new lick of paint, new engine and new gameplay features they should woo the Xbox and Clancy fans alike!
X-Power (Dec 29, 2004)
GameSpy (Nov 19, 2004)
If you're a fan of the series, I think it's safe to say that you'll have a blast with Ghost Recon 2. While the changes that have been made are pretty major, they were all implemented to enhance the experience, and it's definitely become a much more enjoyable game because of them. If you haven't played any of the games yet, now is a great time to start. The Ghost Recon series is definitely heading in the right direction, and I'm actually finding myself looking forward to see what Ubisoft has in store for me in the future.
Gamers' Temple, The (Jul 20, 2005)
Ghost Recon is a thinking person's shooter, and provides some solid, tense gameplay. The challenging and realistic situations it puts you in will make you realize how difficult it must be to be a special forces soldier, and will give you a greater appreciation for what they do. The single player mode is good, the multiplayer outstanding.
IGN (Nov 16, 2004)
Ghost Recon began as a PC franchise and was brought over to Xbox two years back. Though a number of people loved the original on Xbox, I found it to be ugly, cumbersome, frustrating, and, frankly, not much fun. Ghost Recon 2 -- a game not only made for consoles, but made specifically for Xbox -- fixes many of the problems I had with the original, making for one of the best shooters on Xbox.
Xbox Gazette (Nov 28, 2004)
Soldats, Rompez !
Kombo.com (Dec 19, 2004)
I have never really been a huge Ghost Recon fan, but I rented the original Ghost Recon on Xbox and found it to be a decent game, but with a lot of flaws. Ghost Recon 2 fixes everything that the first one had problems with. Graphics are improved, and gameplay is far superior to that of its predecessors. The campaign mode is fairly entertaining and chances are you will play it a second time. The multiplayer mode whether online, or offline is still a solid piece of work. Definitely worth playing on Xbox Live. However, as I mentioned early on in this review, is Ghost Recon 2 really better then the GR 1 and Island Thunder before it? The answer is a solid “Yes”.
GameSpot (Nov 22, 2004)
All but three of the single-player missions (there are three missions in the campaign where you're not accompanied by your squad) can be played cooperatively with up to four people split-screen, through system link, or over Xbox Live. The cooperative mode, especially over Live, is a blast and it's worth the price of admission by itself. You can also set up several variations on the single-player missions in which you must infiltrate points on the map armed only with a silenced pistol, kill every enemy, or defend a position for 10 minutes.
Sydney Morning Herald (Nov 27, 2004)
A worthy sequel to Ghost Recon.
This is a game that could, and should, convert people to 'realistic' shoot-em ups, but it doesn't have enough on the surface to have that kind of appeal. Dig a little deeper and you'll find a game that is worth putting some time into and will almost certainly be enjoyable from beginning to end. It's the first hurdle that's the problem, so if you haven't poked the first tentative toe into this genre, now is the time to start. For those of you who enjoy a challenge and a bit more depth in your action games, Ghost Recon 2 is the game to play.
I’m officially getting a little tired of the Tom Clancy squad-based shooters. Now, don’t get me wrong – I think they’re good games and deserving of the devoted following that they have, but they’re all starting to blend together. Take Ghost Recon 2, for example. On paper, it seems to have a lot of novel features, like a new third-person perspective, improved squad controls, and a graphical overhaul. While it indeed has all those things, it feels more like a merger of the Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six franchises than a new game.
Eurogamer.net (UK) (Nov 26, 2004)
If the game shipped without online, we'd have to bemoan some of the issues slightly louder than we have; rushing AI nonsense, invisibly camouflaged enemies and lack of longevity would push an otherwise very accomplished game down to the realms of a seven - and if you're not planning to go online with Ghost Recon 2 then consider that a fair reflection of what the Campaign is worth. Not bad, but certainly not great, and not quite up to the standard that Rainbow Six offers. Online, though it's not perfect; we've had our fill of overpowered deathmatch-style gaming to tolerate it this time, but fine, if you like that you'll get on just fine here.
Ultimately, I think, "Ghost Recon 2" changes the series for the better by making the game more approachable for a larger audience (the revamped graphics and perspective really help). But in a glut of military shooters the changes aren't radical enough to make it truly exceptional.
1UP (Nov 18, 2004)
Still, if you can overlook those issues, Ghost Recon 2 is a feature-packed game, with a great campaign and loads of side modes to keep you busy. The multiplayer modes work extremely well online, and we'd be shocked if the online community didn't become one of the biggest on Xbox Live outside of Halo 2. So though it's far from perfect, it is a good overall game.
Fragland.net (Feb 23, 2005)
Thanks to the "Lone Wolf" addition the points for concept raise a lot. The graphics aren't up to par and the gameplay is decent at most (which is not good enough for such a title). The sounds are very good but then I'm not talking about the weapons. If you've got Live and you like this type of games, then I would suggest buying it. Be warned though, the game contains a lot of downpoints and in my opinion there aren't enough pro's to make up for the con's.
GamePro (US) (Nov 17, 2004)
Ghost Recon 2 could have been an outstanding sequel to what is perhaps one of the best military shooter series ever made. Instead, this follow-up tiptoes along a thin line that separates old irritating habits and totally new features that don't necessarily make the gameplay better.
Game Revolution (Dec, 2004)
In militaristic video games, the propaganda of an infallible America is usually kept to a brow-beating minimum, but this is not the case in Ubisoft’s tactical action shooter, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon 2. With a Teen rating set against a heavily violent backdrop, Ghost Recon 2 is a web of duality and confusion, a mixed bag of cutting-edge features and annoying flaws. Thankfully, some great graphics and a strong online component save it from the ravages of war.
Games TM (Dec 02, 2004)
Unsurprisingly, the multiplayer modes are a significant part of the game, and while they're not a patch on Rainbow Six 3, they're a drastic improvement and offer some surprisingly tense battles. Despite all the enhancements, though, Ghost Recon 2 is still in a tricky situation - its lack of accessibility will annoy Rainbow Six 3 die-hards, while the new direction will leave fans o the original feeling rather cold.
