When you put the sum of World Championship Pool 2004's parts together, you'll find yourself with one of the better billiards outings released for consoles in quite a long time. Yes, there are things to complain about, such as the decidedly lackluster sound quality and the lack of online gameplay modes, but outside of these complaints, the game performs very well and provides you with enough variations on the game of pool to keep you entertained for quite a while. If you're a pool enthusiast with an Xbox, you shouldn't hesitate to give World Championship Pool 2004 a look.
WCP is a pool simulation for pool players. If you don’t like the game of pool, there’s no way you’ll like the game. WCP won’t be an adequate substitute for the real thing, but it does suffice when you can’t make it to a table. Highly recommended for pool fiends, but casual gamers just won’t get it.
In the end, what really determines if you’d be interested in this game or not is whether you have a passion for billiards. Hardcore pool players should be pleased with this simulation and ability to compete with online opponents, but for the casual player, World Championship Pool 2004 seems to lack the excitement that attracts today’s gamers. It does offer an interesting diversion for a rental, but by the end of the weekend, the novelty will have worn thin. If the thought of freshly brushed green felt and tiny clouds of blue chalk dust don’t stir your emotions, then look elsewhere for gaming satisfaction.
Pool fans, this is your baby. and your only option on the Xbox. Casual fans will find some enjoyment, but it will wear off sooner than later. World Championship Pool focuses and accomplishes excellent gameplay and a wide selection of modes. That's the good, the bad is the outside coating which is no pretty duck.
If you like pool buy World Championship Pool 2004, but if not don’t waste your money. Even with Xbox Live the game is not that good. The game physics and shot controls are done very well but that is about it. With no sound effects or soundtrack to speak of I cannot recommend this game.
