When it comes to wrapping up this review there isn't really a great deal to say. The graphics are remarkable the sound is more than substantial; the only thing you will need to worry about is getting out of bed for school or work having stayed up all night taking your team to the top. If you are new to Pro Evo, prepare to be amazed. If you, like me, have waited patiently for the day when Pro Evo hits the Xbox – the wait is over. Let the games begin.

It's a shame this year's title can't match FIFA with the option of online play. It would have been a riot to see if stateside gamers could match their European peers. Even lacking that option, WE 8 stands as the best soccer game of all time. It looks fantastic and plays out of this world.

This time round with PES4 they have also gained licensing to some of the overseas players. However the answer to the question still remains. Can they make PES4 any better than its predecessor? Yes, they can, with graphical, sound and game play advancements PES4 takes its rightful place as top of the series, the Pro Evolution Series fans will surely love it!

Looking at it from the Xbox owner's perspective, it's a flawed introduction. In fact, if we reach back right to the beginning of our PS2 PES4 review, let's revive "The Boy Rooney(TM)" as an example: he comes on and debuts mid-week in Europe and scores a hat-trick, only to fall completely flat at the weekend. PES4 arrives on Xbox with a fearsome reputation, clearly deserved, and it's capable of the sort of magic that will have you scrambling for an Xbox pad the second you get home most evenings. But taken online - where its impact was most needed - its form is patchy and you get the feeling it's not giving its all. It wanted to play in Europe on Xbox, hence the high profile transfer, but if it's going to win our long-term affection on Xbox it's going to have to put more effort into the details. It's a fantastic, must-buy game for virtually every football-loving Xbox owner, but it could have been much better, too.

What we have here is easily the best football game on the Xbox. The online play is more than enough to forgive the rather simple port over from the PlayStation 2 version. It has its problems, but when it works, there are few games that give the same rush. Anyone schooled in the game may find it hard switching to the new controller, but if you want to play the best football game available, online, it is worth the effort. If you have any interest in football or competitive online sports games, Pro Evolution Soccer 4 is a must buy.

Winning Eleven 8 has allot to offer in its first Xbox outing and is one of the best soccer games on the market. Winning Eleven 8 will be enjoyable to new fans of the sport and the expert fanatics. The emphasis is on the realism and it shines through in the deep career mode and gameplay mechanics. If you enjoy sports, pick this sucka up! Winning Eleven 8 is a great game, and I'm glad Konami decided to bring it to the Xbox.
There could still be a few improvements in the graphics, selection of announcer sound bites, and variety of music, even if those elements on the whole are quite excellent. If you like to watch soccer, by all means go play the gorgeous fields of FIFA's popular franchise. But to play a real game of football, the better choice by far is Winning Eleven.
I doubt that the new additions to this Winning Eleven are going to convince anyone who hasn't already taken the plunge to buy this game (nor is the conspicuous lack of online), but its small steps forward are more than baby steps to the many fans it has around the world.
Console Obsession (Jun 03, 2010)
Pro Evolution Soccer 4 certainly looks the part and in spite of a few detracting flaws it can quite easily be dubbed the beautiful game. Matches proceed like a knife through butter and flow impressively at an unparalleled pace, all accompanied by unbelievable animations and a ball that is kicked around the field like no other. It’s just a shame about the few flaws that conspire to bring the game down and we hope to see some of these disappear when the time comes for the next instalment to roll around.

So is this game just too hard or do I just suck at it? It’s probably a combination of the two. I never claimed to be the worlds greatest expert at soccer, but at the same time I have never run into a game that’s stymied my attempts to become merely adequate at it so fully. At the standard difficulty setting and higher this game is for the hardest of hardcore.
