Band of Bugs hat mich wirklich positiv überrascht.

Band of Bugs certainly isn't going to unseat Disgaea, Final Fantasy Tactics, or Front Mission 3 from their places at the top of the tactics genre, but it's got a lot going for it. It's fun, it's fast, it's entertaining, and defeating giant warrior bugs by pushing them off the edge of the world is always good for a laugh. Ninja Bee knows how to make a good casual game, and Band of Bugs is no exception. They've managed to marry the strategic thinking of the tactics game type with the quick shot of entertainment of the arcade game. If you enjoy tactics games and have an extra 800 MS points, then Band of Bugs won't disappoint.

This is a turn-based strategy game through and through, so fans of the genre will likely have a great time with Band of Bugs. However, if you don’t like the pacing or style of gameplay found in this type of game, your best bet is to avoid the game. As someone who had dabbled in the genre in the past, I found it to be an enjoyable enough game to get through and play, but I’m not hooked enough to spend my days and nights playing online. It’s nice to see the genre making a strong appearance on the Xbox 360, but this just isn’t the game to get people sucked in.

Niggles aside, Band of Bugs is another solid addition to the increasingly well-stocked Live Arcade line-up, and although it's not the most astounding or original title, it's got the sort of charming pick-up-and-play feel that you want from a cheap, casual game. Definitely one to check out for fans of Advance Wars - and a great introduction for those who've so far avoided the turn-based scene.
Game Vortex (Jul 10, 2007)
Band of Bugs is an okay entry-level strategy game for casual players. Hardcore fans of the genre who have already fought their way through hundreds of hours of Final Fantasy Tactics or Disgaea will probably find the game a little too simplistic, while casual players might be turned off by frustrating level mechanics. It is probably best to grab the demo before spending points on the full version.
ZTGameDomain (Jul 02, 2007)
At the end of the day Band of Bugs is a solid experience that will likely only appeal to a certain number of gamers. Fans of casual pick up and play mechanics will likely find the learning curve a bit too steep for their liking, but if you invest the time to learn the ins and outs there is plenty of fun to be had here. Fans of past NinjaBee games will certainly appreciate the standard humor and solid gameplay they have come to expect from the team, but casual fans are still probably better off giving the trial game a whirl before purchasing.

All in all, Band of Bugs is quite entertaining. It’s not going to be enough to draw in new fans to this type of gameplay. Let’s face it – this is a love it or hate it genre. If you don’t like the pacing or strategic style of play here, you’re not going to have your mind changed by some cute bugs. On top of that, there are more bugs than you may want – the kind that make your system freeze. We’re always happy to see new and original downloadable games, but more than just an art style change will be needed to really draw in the masses to a game like this. While Band of Bugs is fun and especially so for fans of the genre, it’s a little unfortunate that it was released so shortly after the spectacular Settlers of Catan.
TalkXbox (Jun 30, 2007)
Fans of previous NinjaBee titles will probably be surprised at their new entry into this genre of gaming and, like me, disappointed. It’s great to see the turn-based style of play making another appearance on the 360, but this isn’t the game that’ll have players returning. If you love turn-based strategy-styled games, then by all means, download Band of Bugs. But, for the casual gamer, I recommend to stay away. There’s not enough enjoyment to warrant the time and/or Microsoft Points.
GameSpot (Jun 22, 2007)
There was an obvious amount of effort given to Band of Bugs, which does have a certain amount of charisma, but the game feels lost in the abyss between mass appeal and cult favorite.
IGN (Jun 22, 2007)
Band of Bugs is a success in just about every category, except the most important one. The feature set, most notably the level editor, visuals, sounds, and wit all work and work well. Unfortunately for fans of turn-based strategy games, the gameplay won't hold up to the standards we're all used to. Download it if you must, but know there are better alternatives out there.
Worth Playing (Jul 02, 2007)
For a $10 Xbox Live Arcade title, Band of Bugs shows a lot of potential. It looks quite nice, and a lot of the basic features work exceptionally well. Unfortunately, once you start getting into the gameplay, you can't help but feel that something is missing. If the game had a more developed campaign mode or a wider variety to its basic design, it could have been a smash hit. As it stands now, however, it feels empty and basic. For the price, Band of Bugs is not a bad buy, but don't expect to spend much time with it, either, as it lacks the replay value to keep you coming back for more.
UOL Jogos (Jun 27, 2007)
