Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 isn't perfect, but it is the game of the year for 2012 and possibly the best shooter ever released. With Call of Duty: ELITE players can now access more content than ever before including advanced player cards, stream live matches over YouTube, easily create in-game recordings and share them with friends, access improved leaderboards and more. IGN (Nov 13, 2012)
The team at Treyarch could have played it safe and Black Ops II would have sold well, but instead they challenged assumptions and pushed the series forward in awesome new directions. It’ll be hard to return to a campaign where I don’t have the ability to shape it, and I simply can’t imagine going back to the old loadout system now that Pick 10 exists. Combined with the host of subtle and overt improvements to the array of other systems, the additions to make it more appealing to Esports, and the more fleshed out Zombies mode, this is not just a fantastic Call of Duty game, but one of the best shooters of the last decade.
Game Over Online (Dec 18, 2012)
On the one hand, Black Ops 2 can simply be written off as the latest in the series. In many ways, it’s really just more of the same. In my opinion, the last two Modern Warfare games were a little stagnant, following such a trend. I’m happy to say that, for me anyway, Black Ops 2 allayed my fears. Treyarch did an amazing job, creating another high intensity experience that sets the standard for every other shooter to aspire to. They have restored my faith in the biggest of all franchises, and actually have me curious to see what comes next!
Splitkick (Nov 27, 2012)
It’s nearly impossible to talk about the qualities of Black Ops 2 briefly. It offers loads of content – rare for an Activision yearly release – and it’s nearly all at an impeccable standard. Sure, the engine is starting to look a little dated, and detractors of military shooters won’t find an experience that will change their mind, but I was hooked. If you need a brief summation then here it is. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is addictively brilliant. Treyarch have mastered iterative game development, leaving every other developer working on a Call of Duty game faced with meeting the very highest bar.

HonestGamers (Nov 17, 2012)
When I consider all of those qualities, I have no trouble picturing myself playing Call of Duty: Black Ops II for weeks to come. There’s nothing available that’s likely to change your mind if you’ve decided that you’re sick of the franchise, but there’s enough great new stuff here to keep everyone else delighted and engaged for another year. That’s more than I truthfully expected, and thus I find myself left with no reasonable recourse but to recommend that you purchase the game at your earliest convenience.
The Games Cabin (Dec 01, 2012)
Same old formula, but that’s definitely not hampering the game what so ever. Zombies is as fun as ever, but campaign could have used a little bit more variety sometimes.
games xtreme (Nov 26, 2012)
For a series which is heading towards the stale territory, we think Black Ops 2 innovates just enough to make us interested in the franchise again and certainly provides enough meat to hang on the gameplay bones - Treyarch has done the franchise proud again and proven they have stepped up to the mark and beyond with this iteration.
ASPEB (Dec, 2012)

The Video Game Critic (Dec 22, 2012)
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 may be a drama queen, but there's a heck of a lot of content here for shooting fans.
Neo Plus (Dec, 2012)
Call of Duty najlepsze jest w "starej" formule, czylu proste strzelanie w "rynnie", bez żadnych udziwnień.
Giant Bomb (Nov 13, 2012)
The most dramatic changes in this year's Call of Duty come on the campaign side, with a story so full of choices big and small that you might not even be aware that you're making them.
The Digital Fix (Nov 23, 2012)
The main menu tells a story for Black Ops II as it displays three clear game modes in Campaign, Zombies or Multiplayer, each being a full game in its own right. This is effectively three games in one and that alone presents immense value for money. Treyarch should be commended as this could quite easily have been the same old same old but they clearly have passion for the franchise and have made every effort to breath some new life into what is now an old and tired formula. Some of it works, some of it needs work but all in all it is impossible to knock the passion and endeavour that Treyarch bring to the franchise - no longer are they the second devs for Call of Duty games and you have to respect that. Call of Duty: Black Ops II is well worth your time, and indeed money - easily the best Call of Duty for a few years.
Financial Post (Nov 14, 2012)
It may not be the complete package found in previous Call of Duty games, but the 2012 iteration of the world’s most popular military shooter franchise still offers plenty of high-calibre action.

GameSpot (Nov 13, 2012)
Though zombies mode is stagnating, the rest of Black Ops II is lively, and it's great to see some shifting in the familiar structure. Developer Treyarch's storytelling prowess has once again resulted in an engaging, exciting campaign, and the addition of league play to the online multiplayer arena is an intriguing change that could reinvigorate the formula that has endured for so long. By reaching forward while remaining rooted in the things it does so well, Black Ops II offers a great shooter experience.
Gamestyle (Nov 10, 2012)
This is Call Of Duty, nothing more, nothing less. Fans of the series will lap it up, those who didn’t like the previous games will not be swayed by anything it does. It has a target audience and Activision know what they want. Black Ops II doesn’t disappoint, it just doesn’t push the series on any further.
Gamer Limit (Nov 16, 2012)
All in all, Black Ops II is a solid game, but it feels kind of tired at this point in many respects. The new additions to the single player, zombie, and multiplayer components are a good effort, but they’re not enough to transcend the series to a new level (like Halo 4 did for the Halo series). But if you enjoyed Black Ops, odds are you’ll also enjoy Black Ops II — albeit a little less so.
Xboxygen (Dec 14, 2012)
XboxAchievements (Nov 16, 2012)
Call of Duty: Black Ops II is a decent successor to the original but despite the flashy tricks up its sleeve, this plays in pretty much the same way. Fans will find plenty to enjoy in each of the three main modes and the online arena is still up there with the best around, plus Zombies is likely to garner plenty of your time. Black Ops II might not be perfect, but the entertainment value far outweighs some questionable design choices.

Ultimately, ambition is the word that best describes Black Ops 2 - and that's remarkable enough in itself. This is still Call of Duty, with all that entails, and anyone who has resisted the series so far likely won't be won over this time either. For the fans, though, Black Ops 2 offers the rare sight of a series at its height choosing to experiment and change rather than stay loyal to a proven, but tired, formula. It may be a small victory in the battle for fresh blockbuster thinking, but it's a victory nonetheless. Those hoping to see Call of Duty knocked off its perch will have to wait another year.

The Guardian (Nov 16, 2012)
Black Ops II isn't a lazy annual update – it deserves credit for trying to play around with gaming's most winning formula. Yet this engine is showing its age, creaking at times as the jets fly overhead. Its new strategy levels don't need strategy. And the best parts are tweaked copies of what has been before. In the end, Black Ops II doesn't give us meaningful innovation, and it suggests COD's future success will depend on much more than fiddling around with the past.
