Some may feel certain aspects of the game might not hold its own individually. However, you cannot deny that Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games brought it all together in one incredible package. While it may not win Game of the Year, it certainly is the blockbuster it was hyped up to be.

The on-line matches are disconcerting at first, but once you start moving up the ranks, the hours just melt away. Add in support for split-screen and coop, and Modern Warfare 3 really is the complete package.
In my view, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 stands as the best Call of Duty experience to date and is arguably the best multiplayer shooter experience on the Xbox 360. With 16-maps out of the box and a glut of DLC to come, Call of Duty gamers will without question be playing Modern Warfare 3 online for months to come. Although the single player experience can be a bit on the short side, it is deeply engaging and features some of the most epic scenes we have seen in a single player game to date. The Spec Ops co-op mode and Elite service only serve to enhance the overall CoD experience. At the end of the day, Modern Warfare 3 is a must own and is as good as it gets for Xbox 360 shooters.
The A.V. Club (Nov 14, 2011)
Modern Warfare 3 leaves the punishment up to your fellow gamers, who will reward your every misstep with a bullet in the brain and another ding in your kill/death ratio. Your ability to hack these slings and arrows is what best determines your capacity to enjoy Modern Warfare 3. They say battle hardens men like a blacksmith forges steel. But what kind of swordmaker gets a kick from dishing out such abuse?
The Telegraph (Nov 08, 2011)
Modern Warfare 3 is a shining example of refinement and improvement. It's familiar, sure, but here familiarity doesn't breed contempt, just respect and reward for those who've dedicated so much time to the series. And for new players, it's the perfect starting point, more accommodating and encompassing than ever. The series has always been renowned for elements like the excellent sound design, the gloss, polish and compulsion of its gameplay, but with Modern Warfare 3, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer have created a game that not only lives up to the brand hype but exceeds it. A game where the mass appeal is justified, and the expectations are met. A game which is undoubtedly going to be played for a long, long time to come, and deservedly so.

Doubtful Modern Warfare 3 can keep the series's unprecedented winning streak alive? Don't be: It's every bit as polished and expertly crafted as any previous Call of Duty experience, and amazingly finds new ways to keep the annual shooter smash from overstaying its welcome.

Though the campaign seems to get wrapped up in this game, I’m sure in 2 years we will be seeing a new Modern Warfare title. Though the campaign alone would not make me give this game a great rating, the multi-player mode more than makes up for a short but well told campaign story.
games xtreme (Dec 01, 2011)
When it comes to getting epic Hollywood action into modern warfare style shooters, the Call of Duty games from 4 onwards have been insanely epic and getting even crazier with each new iteration and set piece. Modern Warfare 3 takes the action to even bigger heights and establishes itself as the king of short but incredibly pulse-pounding single player action.
God is a Geek (Dec 13, 2011)
Modern Warfare 3 is by no means a revolution. It isn’t a graphical, gameplay or game mode innovation. What it is, however, is a very well put together example of everything that Call of Duty developers have learned over the years of making the game. The campaign’s story should have been stronger, but it is made up for by the sheer scale found within the game. While we saw no revolutionary graphical changes, what we did get was a fantastic trip around the world, which looks great and packs in the frames-per-second like no other FPS out there. Modern Warfare 3 feels like the icing on the cake for the series, a massive firework show to usher the series into a transitional period where the developers will be forced to innovate and shake things up if it wants to keep smashing those sales records. Let’s hope Infinity Ward, Activision and even Treyarch take up that mantle and dare to be different.

MMGN (Nov 08, 2011)
Modern Warfare 3 seems like the game everyone loves to hate, and yet everyone seems to be playing it. Funnily enough, this game will have one of the largest online communities across all platforms for the next 24 months, making it a must-have for anyone looking for competitive and fast online action. This game never attempts to offer realistic military combat, instead relying on a tried and true formula that still maintains its addictiveness and depth from over the years.
IGN (Nov 08, 2011)
Despite its flaws, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 takes the fantastic series we’ve come to love over the years and iterates on it with great success. The multiplayer is hands-down the best it has ever been, with more features, more modes and a ton of new levels and ways to interact via Call of Duty Elite. The singleplayer campaign and Spec Ops mode add value to the overall package, creating something that may not be perfect, but is too damn addicting to pass up.
NowGamer (Nov 07, 2011)
But if you take it for what it is – an explosive, cinematic and unashamedly linear action game – then you’re in for a treat. It’s confident and self-assured without feeling cocky; bombastic and loud without feeling overblown.

XboxAchievements (Nov 11, 2011)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is a well produced title that will give you another slice of entertainment, whether you choose to go it alone or head online to kick ass and take some names. It's nothing new though, and single-player feels especially lightweight this time around, so there is still room for improvement. More of the same next year then – which is both great news and a bit disappointing really.

Giant Bomb (Nov 08, 2011)
Modern Warfare 3 feels split between the great excitement of its time-tested multiplayer and the feeling that this whole style of game has just gotten old.
Calm Down Tom (Nov 15, 2011)
The next game in this series, whether it goes with the Call of Duty name or the Modern Warfare branding, will have to try something new. Short, tightly focused and closely scripted games short on player liberty and full of spectacle are beginning to wear out their welcome and if the next game doesn’t make substantive updates to the formula it will suffer in review scores and subsequently public opinion too. Derisevely called “asset tours”, these games take you on a roller-coaster ride that’s short, fun and forgettable. For this one last time though, I still want to ride this rollercoaster. Its well worth the price of admission for one last trip. Enjoy it!
GamingLives (Nov 21, 2011)
After much reflection, Modern Warfare 3 can be described in one word: predictable. Of course, that’s cheating - how could it not be predictable? It’s basically the same game with a flimsy and somewhat unbelievable throwaway storyline superimposed over explosions and sexed up weaponry, but something about MW3 just didn’t sit quite right for me. I think after the twists and explosive ending of MW2, I was left a little disheartened by the progression of the MW3 storyline. While it delivered pretty much everything I was hoping it would, it lacked a certain jazz. That being said, it was still a bloody brilliant game that will keep me occupied for months to come. It boasts the outrageous and unbelievable storylines and plot twists that are expected of it, and those who are agonising over what to put on your Christmas wish list shouldn’t ignore the hype.
With or without the extra investment, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 boasts enough content that no concise review can ever do justice to everything. Even before you see the massive wall of names in the closing credits, you’ll be able to tell that this product was the labor of a virtual army of talented individuals. Few games have ever provided this much value to justify your $60 investment, yet it’s hard at times to escape the feeling that the creative spark that once lit the fuse has been snuffed out and now we’re just left with the bombastic explosions. As a result, the trilogy’s epic conclusion is basically everything you expected but with more spectacle and less heart. Clearly, fictional war comes with a price tag of its own.
It would be simple to write Modern Warfare 3 off as another phoned-in project from Activision. However, that would be selling the game short. It has its issues, some of them quite significant, but overall the game still has the rock-solid mechanics and fantastic graphics (quite a feat from such an aging engine) that the series has had since day one. For fans, chances are you will get a great deal of enjoyment out of this title. For everyone else, the casual fans and those on the fence about purchasing another yearly installment of the FPS juggernaut, it is entirely safe to sit this one out, or at the very least, consider a rental. For those not already a fan, Modern Warfare 3 offers not enough new and too much of the same. There's better ways to spend $60, and this is not one of them.
Gamekult (Nov 09, 2011)
Splitkick (Nov 16, 2011)
The series has been refined too many times for a release to outright suck, but it may also have been around too long for any subsequent Call of Duty game to truly excite. Everything here is passable, save the worst of the multiplayer maps, and I guess that might be enough for some. Unfortunately then, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 shows the signs of its assumedly tumultuous development and the signs of a franchise going stale.
