Damnation could have been a pretty good contender a year or so ago, however, with the newest game engines, prettier graphics of other games and the fact that Vertical Combat isn't exactly a new thing since the Tomb Raider games evolved and we've seen a lot of true VC in CAPCOM's Dark Void videos. Damnation deserves kudos for trying a hard genre, a hard game style and attempting to add a fresh new coat of paint to an old painting. It just doesn't quite work...a case of too little and definitely too late. It is a fun (at times) and quirky game though that's worth persevering with, despite the bugs.

Damnation was either going to succeed or fail on an epic level. Unfortunately, the latter applies. Blue Omega’s vision is buried under so many layers of clumsy gameplay and painful cinematics that the glimmers of the game that could have been just can’t stem the tide. It’s certainly worth renting to see what might have been, or buying at a discount price, but otherwise, Kevin, Will, Eric and Selma—you can come out now.

The overpowered enemies make using melee and the shotgun pointless. And any game that makes those two things pointless, has its priorities wrong...I’m giving it 5.5/10

In fact the jibs are out of sync as well, I’ve never seen a grenade make an enemy simply fall apart instead of blow off in a direction before...At least there’s lots of windows to jump through Jung, and I do I quite like this type of science fiction , but it’s not done justice here, I’m giving it 5.5/10.
Damnation is the type of game I am most disappointed in simply because it really is trying to push the genre forward. The execution kills it almost instantly the first time you try to take down an enemy. The level designs are definitely unique and online co-op is a huge bonus, but neither of these are going to elevate this title past the tag of mediocrity. I really hate to say this, but I don't recommend Damnation for more than a rental until the price drops substantially. There just isn't enough here to make up for the numerous mistakes it makes, thus eliminating most of the enjoyment that could have been.
As bad as many aspects of Damnation are, it still somehow has a bizarrely unique charm. By sheer scope and ambition alone, it becomes a borderline playable gaming experience that can be strangely compelling if you are willing to look past the myriad bugs and serious graphical flaws. Sadly however, the majority of gamers just won't be that lenient - and why should they be? Damnation is an unfinished game, a concept with good ideas and a real sense of scale but terrible implementation in almost every way.

Damnation is not exactly a terrible game. As a shooter, it does the bare minimum required to be considered competant. It's just incredibly mediocre and pointless that it's made me wonder exactly how games like this even get the green light. There is simply no good reason for Damnation to exist. In fact, by the time this review is ready to post, I'll have forgotten that it ever had done.

It is not just a clever title, as Damnation seems more than willing to live up to its name. The game is glitchy, ugly and just not enough fun at all. Even in co-op you will struggle to glean much enjoyment and I had fun playing Fuzion Frenzy 2 with other people. This is a rental at the absolute best and even then you had better have played pretty much everything else beforehand.

Das Steampunk-Szenario hebt sich von den gängigen Shooterwelten angenehm ab, die Akrobatik-Einlagen geben dem Balleralltag zusätzliche Würze und die Koop-Möglichkeiten wissen mit taktischen Wegverzweigungen und Fahrzeugeinsätzen durchaus zu gefallen. Doch diese positiven Duftmarken verrauchen gnadenlos in einem chaotischen Gestöber aus technischen und dramaturgischen Tiefschlägen. Dass der Titel grafisch seiner Zeit meilenweit hinterher hinkt, kann man vielleicht noch verschmerzen, obwohl die Atmosphäre teils deutlich unter den verwaschenen Texturen, hölzernen Ruckelanimationen und billigen Spezialeffekten leidet. Dass der Handlungsrahmen mit dermaßen ausgelutschter Story, stereotypen Charakteren, dämlichen Dialogen und zum Teil katastrophalen Synchronsprechern daher kommt, ist jedoch unentschuldbar. Der Umfang ist trotz gewaltiger Areale auch eher mau und die KI verdient es nicht einmal so genannt zu werden.

Blue Omega Entertainment set out with a clear goal, to change the First Person Genre with a mix of FPS and Acrobatics; unfortunately Damnation falls short on both counts and leaves gamers wanting their money back. Damnation is definitely not worth the £29.99 price tag, but may be worth a Blockbuster Rent.

And on that note, I’m afraid to say that even the alternate steampunk western universe cannot save the rigid, repetitive, and simply mundane experience offered by Damnation. I’d recommend anyone to avoid this game, unless you’re really missing the classic action-adventure genre.

I really wanted Damnation to be good. It had all kinds of potential when the only information about the game was the screenshots. After playing it for a few days, I’m sad to say that not only did the game not live up to what it could have been, it actually lowered the bar for any other steampunk western that follows; though I can’t see too many developers jumping at the chance to outdo this game. The one positive I can take away from my experience is that Damnation has made me more excited for Red Dead Redemption, because at least with Rockstar, there’s a chance the game won’t suck this hard.

It seems the thought process behind Damnation was something along the lines of: Gears is a good game, let's do a Gear knock off, but our USP will be a Tomb Raider platform mechanic. It's ill-thought from the very start, which is demonstrated by the contradictions and flaws evident throughout the entire game.

Apesar do interessante clima de fantasia misturado com western, "Damnation" não impressiona. É um jogo de ação em terceira pessoa de características genéricas, com visuais feios e poucos momentos empolgantes. Apesar de suporte a multiplayer offline ou online, não há nada digno de nota para curtir ao lado de um amigo.

Damnation cherchait à offrir quelque chose de nouveau, une nouvelle façon d'aborder les jeux d'action, mais il ne se contente finalement que de mixer maladroitement des mécaniques de jeu anciennes et depuis longtemps dépassées par une concurrence de plus en plus farouche. Le jeu est plombé par de trop nombreux défauts, autant en termes de structure et de jouabilité que de réalisation. Peut-être serait-il plus avisé de garder votre argent pour autre chose.

I gave Damnation as much of a try as I could, but it never rose above its many flaws to be enjoyable. It had the potential, but anything that showed flair was quickly buried by more clumsy dialogue or stilted character movement. I can’t even recommend that you try it as a rental.

You have to give Blue Omega credit for trying something different with Damnation's steampunk story and its leaping-around action, but that's about it. Everything else here is painful to experience.

In co-op was het overigens een nog grotere ramp, want kennelijk moest ik de hele tijd één of andere hendel overhalen om één of andere lift te starten – een geschreven opdracht die midden op mijn scherm aangegeven werd – terwijl er nergens ook maar iets in de buurt was dat op een lift of een hendel leek. En dat stuk tekst bleef dus twee uur lang op mijn scherm staan.Damn zeg, wat een shitgame.

In the end, Damnation really is a sad story. The game had an interesting concept and a good amount of potential but it just never came together. It is really unfortunate to see it fail in just about every aspect because even if it had gotten one thing right, be it platforming, shooting, multiplayer, or its storyline, perhaps it could have still found an audience happy to check it out. However, as it is I can’t imagine anyone enjoying their time spent with this game.

It pains me to write reviews like this. I thought we were far beyond this point in the gaming industry to green light such tripe, let alone at a full price tag to boot. If this is the best that Codemasters can produce in the action genre, please, let's hope they stick to racing.

Look, I haven't played a game like this in a long, long time. I am literally sad because it seemed like it could have at least been a solid shooter. But it fails on almost every level.

Damnation is unfortunately an awful example of a next generation game, in fact it is an awful example of a last generation game. Avoid this at all costs, well unless you have more money than sense that is.

As you plough deeper into the steampunk setting it becomes painfully obvious that the plot is the same, timeless, good-versus-evil guff that you've heard a hundred times before. It all adds up to one (excuse the pun) epic failure.

Even after looking for a glimmer of quality, hoping that there'd be some redeeming feature to balance out this avalanche of weary criticism, Damnation offers little to which to cling. At best, it's a functional third-person platformer that sometimes acts like a shooter. At worst, it's an astonishing collection of poor design decisions, half-hearted implementation and mindless narrative clutter that will only lead to buyer's remorse in all who decide to give it a try.

None of the design appears to be in sync. Damnation strikes you as an unconfident, unconvincing effort, and the only possible conclusion is that Blue Omega lack a basic grasp on the fundamentals. Blue Omega have proudly stated that much of Damnation's content has been outsourced: the result is a badly managed travesty of game design. With no cohesive, creative vision the game simply falls flat. Epic in ambition alone, Damnation should never have been published, and somebody, somewhere, should have been polite enough to take the source code and delete it a long time ago.

There's no reason for you to play Damnation. It fails at being a worthwhile title on all fronts. The gameplay isn't fun, the levels are too long, the sound is bad, and the story isn't interesting. There are more problems, but I'll leave my written flogging at that. Avoid this game at all costs.

En fin de compte, la principale qualité de Damnation est de permettre de mieux se rendre compte à quel point ses jeux modèles Gears of War et Tomb Raider sont de bons jeux. Non, ce n’est pas évident de proposer un jeu beau, fluide, bien mis en valeur, et surtout très jouable. Damnation souffre de l’ampleur de ses ambitions démesurées : à vouloir offrir trop de choses, il n’en offre aucune d’un bon niveau. Seul le jeu en coopération, décent, sauve le jeu d’un zéro pointé.

I always look for redeeming factors in games and try to understand why a bad game ended up as it did. With Damnation, I don't know that it was ever on the right track. The game is a total mess. I don't want to be disrespectful to those that undoubtedly worked hard to put the game out on store shelves, but there comes a point when you need to be honest and just say it like it is; there's no reason to play Damnation either alone or online.

Hey, you can always rent this and marvel at the fact how stupid the AI conducts itself during combat. It made me laugh quite a few times, so maybe in some part of the universe this can be construed as a good thing. This side of the galaxy, however, it can be described using two words: major cock-up.

I am getting so sick of tired of all these games that looked good a few years ago and now they are at the bottom of the sea. Damnation really is as bad as everyone is saying. The only thing I am going to say to finish off this review is one simple sentence. I now have more respect for the Playstation 3 game Lair.
