Dead Space 3 was an incredible journey, a journey that took me from floating in the vast openness and beauty of space to walking the treacherous snowy paths on a frozen planet. I faced terrifying enemies, hacked into laboratories, changed into different suits, crafted new weapons, solved puzzles and rappelled down icy cliffs. It was often a breath-taking, heart-stopping rollercoaster ride of action, intrigue and emotional turmoil, but all the while it was tightly rolled within feelings of shock, horror, and nonstop terror. And it’s a ride that I would happily experience all over again.

With Nine chapters and an ending chapter to adventure through on your own or with a friend, Dead Space 3 is a worthwhile ride to horror and adventure. Oh and like some cool movies these days that have a bit more to tell in the story after the credits finish up, stay through the credits and check it out.

Gaming Age (Feb 13, 2013)
Dead Space 3 does exactly the things a sequel should. It’s bigger, badder, and in most ways better than the previous entries. Dead Space 3 introduces new ways to play, without letting valuable features go. Most importantly, it provides us with a game meant to be played by the fans first and not just a cash cow. Sure Dead Space 3 is familiar, but fans wouldn’t have it any other way. If you have been in love since the first entry, then you already probably own this game and don’t need my opinion. On the other hand, if you have played the previous two and weren’t sold, there’s nothing that is going to change your mind here to make you a convert, unless of course there’s a marker nearby…

On paper, Dead Space 3’s additions and alterations seem poised to sully the franchise’s fear-provoking impact. Cleverly, most are noncompulsory, allowing series stalwarts to enjoy Isaac Clark’s third outing, while players seeking additional variability can delve into the game’s co-op and crafting components. Either way, boot-stomping necros and skulking around menacing corners remains one of the more engaging and immersive experiences found in the contemporary survival horror field.

Overall, Dead Space 3 is a solid entry in the series despite the additions. They don’t change the core gameplay, and actually add some extra for fans wanting a bit different of an experience than the past two games have offered. If you’ve never checked out a game in the series, now is definitely the best time.

Destructoid (Feb 08, 2013)
Dead Space 3 could have been the best entry in the series, and in many ways, it still does provide some of the franchise's most energetic, thrilling, entertaining moments. The changes thrown into the game inevitably damage its charm, though, and make this a step down from its predecessors. A step down from Dead Space's high standards don't necessarily make for a bad game -- far from it, in fact, for this is still a bloody great game and well worth any fans' time. It's sad that market pressure and industry fear tried so hard to ruin things, but one can at least savor the victory of Dead Space 3's creative success in spite of commercial encroachment.

Critical Hit (Feb 13, 2013)
New fans will enjoy a scary action adventure over the shoulder shooter with lots of cool guns. Fans of the franchise will need to look elsewhere for that big scare. I love it and hate it at the same time.

XboxAchievements (Feb 05, 2013)
Dead Space 3 is another hugely engaging and entertaining entry in the series, but it's hampered by uneven pacing, predictable scares, a surfeit of aggressive enemies and too many frustrating bits. There's a lot of nice new ideas, such as weapon crafting, and co-op is a genuinely worthwhile and fun addition. Another masterclass in visual detail and atmospheric audio, Dead Space 3 is nonetheless lacking in the areas that really matter. Suspense, tension and horror.

IGN (Feb 07, 2013)
The combat system and the world Visceral has crafted in Dead Space 3 is so expertly built and well-wrought, I found myself consciously overlooking my main criticisms, because I love playing it and spending time with it. This is an important distinction to make: loving a game while being fully aware of its faults. Dead Space 3, when played the way I've been playing it, on New Game+, is an engrossing and satisfying experience. But it requires ignoring the bad story and the numbing to-do lists. It then becomes all about building up the most powerful, best outfitted Isaac you can imagine. It’s here and here alone that Dead Space 3 succeeds, mostly in spite of itself.

Gameplay (Benelux) (Feb 28, 2013)

Worth Playing (Feb 26, 2013)
Dead Space 3 struts its dedication to more dismemberments than delusions as a solo sci-fi gunfest. On that count, it's not a disappointment. On the other hand, it's hard to ignore what it loses when it tries to balance the needs of longtime fans while seeking to broaden its audience. Two years ago, Dead Space 2 ran a controversial, but hilarious, ad campaign proudly proclaiming that your mom would hate the game. Today, hardly any of that maverick attitude can be seen in this third-person blast-'em-up except, perhaps, in the co-op stuff that's behind a multiplayer requirement.

My sci-fi shooter cravings are largely filled via the Mass Effects, Lost Planets, and Gears of Wars of the world. When I sign on for a Dead Space experience, it’s with the hope that it will freak me out, that I’ll feel my heart pounding in my chest, that I’ll be startled out of my seat and compelled to play with my living room lamps at maximum illumination. With Dead Space 3, I didn’t even bother flipping on the light for my bathroom breaks.

Calm Down Tom (Feb 28, 2013)
There was some truly memorable moments in Dead Space 3, and it wasn’t a bad game by any means, but maybe the series is just getting a little played-out. The series needs a breath of fresh air, and instead Isaac Clarke has inhaled some kind of bacterial micro-transaction infection. The game has a very strong set of chapters at the end, but I did have to play a good few hours before I started to properly enjoy the game. There are some cool new features, and the addition of co-op (although out of place) can be a great deal of fun, just like the completely over powered weapon system. If you are a big fan of Dead Space you will surely find some great moments but nothing will quite compare to the needle scene in Dead Space 2 or even the Nursery scene. The horror simply isn’t there, and when that’s missing Dead Space feels…. hollow.

The Video Game Critic (Mar 12, 2013)
The single player mode is entertaining, but the coop mode is on-line only, and that's too bad. The game auto-saves frequently, making Dead Space 3 the kind of adventure you can enjoy in small doses. That's good because the repetition does get to you after a while.

Giant Bomb (Feb 05, 2013)
Dead Space 3 mixes some solid new ideas in with its stock horror-action tropes, but the overall quality of the production falls short of the series' standards.

Metro.co.uk (Feb 07, 2013)
Dead Space 3 is a game that tries to be all things to all people, but rather than being a recipe for disaster it’s merely one for unremarkable competence. Except for the horror element it’s hard to argue that the game gets anything very wrong, but neither does it hit the bullseye of the many other targets it aims at. This is a sequel afraid of what its predecessors stood for and too timid to focus on and perfect their strengths. It’s a real shame that it’s the game’s creators that seem the most scared in Dead Space 3, rather than the players.

TrueAchievements (Feb 11, 2013)
With an opening scene that is action-heavy, horror fans may be turned off to continue the adventure. When the pacing drags throughout the game at different points, you may again wish it would just be over with. Still, a game of this budget and scope succeeds with all of its mechanics as it should, and the story is the most revealing thus far. Taking on Isaac's third mission alone wasn't nearly as memorable as his past exploits because the gameplay was often stuck in stasis. Just remember, misery loves company. Bring a friend and let go of what Dead Space was and you’ll at least enjoy, if not love, what Dead Space has become.

It’s a shame the cumbersome combat repeatedly shatters the illusion. There were rumors floating around early in Dead Space 3's development cycle that the game would be a first-person shooter. This was met with anger. Why? Are fans afraid that the series will become homogeneous with every other popular shooter franchise? It already is. A first-person Dead Space 3 wouldn't have fixed the game's generic design and now complete lack of surprise, but it would finally put to rest the identity crisis that the brand has been struggling with for two whole entries now. If you're gonna make a shooter, Visceral, at least be honest with yourselves about it. I don't mind that Dead Space 3 is an action game; I mind that it's a clumsy, uninspired one.

Gamekult (Feb 06, 2013)

Diehard GameFan (Feb 08, 2013)
Dead Space 3 is generally enjoyable and should satisfy players well enough overall, and it pulls off much of what it does effectively, but some elements fall flat for one reason or another, leaving it an enjoyable, if disappointing, finale to the series (so far).
