If you read the opening sentence of this summary and felt even just a tinge of agreement with my sentiment, should you only be able to afford one retail title from the impressive lineup we're contending with this year, make it Dishonored. I can offer no higher praise than an unquestionable five star rating, though I'm throwing my hat into the ring and declaring that I strongly believe this is a Game of the Year contender.

Dishonored reminds us of Thief and we're proud to say we love it just as much as we do the Dark Project, the Metal Age and even Deadly Shadows. It has all the elements that make a great game and doesn't skimp on anything - it tests your ingenuity and offers complete freedom of movement/choice through the whole game.

Dishonored is this year’s must-have new IP, with fresh ideas, plenty of charm and inventiveness, and tying them together in a stylish fashion. Who said creativity in the games industry was dead, huh? Dishonored says hello. Your free time says goodbye.

It's a shame that Dishonored's story isn't greater than the sum of its decidedly memorable parts, but its gameplay absolutely is. Each mission is built as an elaborate network of choices for players to explore, and the same can be said for Corvo himself. Each player's selection of powers, perks and other upgrades will inform how they see and interact with this world, and no two play-throughs will be exactly the same. Dishonored is a game you'll talk with your friends about, and that you'll want to play multiple times. In this game there are always other paths to be taken and other challenges to conquer, and that's a refreshing thing indeed.

All wrapped together, the Dishonored package is a model I wish more games—especially the tired first-person shooter genre—would follow. More so today than ever, it seems like they're intent on only offering violent measures as means and ends to their conflicts. Dishonored, instead, uses violence as a choice—a fact that makes it more appropriately rewarding, and happily avoided. There are some weird technical hiccups (like guards able to hear downed and snoozing enemies through walls) and the protagonist is a shell without a voice, but everything gels together so impeccably otherwise, it's unfortunate the game has an ending.

Dishonored looks like it will easily secure the title of Top New IP of 2012. The gameplay is solid and story is entertaining. While the graphics may drag the game down a bit, don’t let them stop you from enjoying what is a great title, whether you play it stealthy or guns blazing and sword flying.

If nothing else, Dishonored offers up a glorious break from the standard run and gun, and a wonderfully rich new environment to indulge in.For those of you just re-emerging from your XCOM induced exile, go put your FPS mask back on and give Dishonored a spin.

I can’t recommend Dishonored highly enough for anyone previously turned off to the world of stealth. Those that are fans of the genre will already be worked up and need little encouragement from me to know this is an essential purchase for them.
Chip Power Play (Nov, 2012)

If you love yourself some Deus Ex, you're going to really like Dishonored, and if you've found the genre impenetrable in the past, I've got some good news for you.
