Oh, the game is still leaning toward the linear, and Michael Corleone still looks and sounds nothing like Al Pacino (ahh, lawyers). However this is the definitive version of The Godfather, and it is a tremendous accolade for EA's reputation that this respects and honors the original material so well. It would be a bit much to say that this is good enough to drag people back for a second look, but if you've not already experienced The Godfather, this is most definitely the version to experience it with.

Anyone who didn’t purchase the current-gen version of the game definitely has to pick this one up. Enhanced visuals, achievements and a longer story line make this the version to get! Those who have already purchased the previous version would be hard to convince to drop another $60 for essentially the same game but at least deserves a rental if only for the new presentation. Then again, why not trade in the current-gen version and purchase the 360 version? Sounds good to me!
Overall, The Godfather is the same great game that came out seven months ago, just with a little “next-gen” face-lift. It’s not worth $60 to anyone who’s already gone through and done everything there is to do in this game, but it’s definitely worth the price of admission for those of you who chose to wait it out and try the next-gen version.
Daily Game (Sep 18, 2006)
For all the grief the big publishers get for mindlessly porting games from one console to the next, we've got to hand it to Electronic Arts on this one. The Godfather The Game for Xbox 360 improves in nearly every way upon its current-gen counterparts, and it's easy to see why the next-gen version was so late to the Don's party.
XBox Front (Oct 06, 2006)

Games Finder (Apr 12, 2014)
The game has obvious appeal to fans of The Godfather movie but if you haven’t seen the film then don’t be turned off as there is definitely no requirement to have watched the film to get the full (and wonderful) experience that The Godfather: The Game has to offer.
games xtreme (Oct 12, 2006)
All in all there are a lot of GTA style games out there and if you already own Godfather for Xbox, you probably won’t want to buy the 360 version. But it does add a fair bit and offers a lot of varied gameplay, it isn’t quite in the league of the GTA series but it’s up there as a solid and enjoyable game.
GameSpy (Sep 25, 2006)
Most movie-based games have a habit of failing to do the source material justice. Fans of the Godfather films, though, shouldn't be disappointed in EA's interactive take on the franchise. The game never strays from what captivated audiences more than thirty years ago, and provides a rich experience that gamers simply won't be able to refuse.
Video Game Talk (Sep 27, 2006)
If I had to peg The Godfather against rivals, it's like an arcade version of Mafia mixed with elements of the Grand Theft Auto series. Regardless of the major graphical problems, The Godfather is a fun romp that lasts for a multitude of hours, assuming you are into achievements. Otherwise, the single player storyline takes about 15 hours to finish. If you have already finished any other console version, there isn't much that's new in the 360 version. If you haven't experienced the Godfather yet, pick it up at a price point of $40 to $50 and toss yourself into the Corleone family.

Armchair Empire, The (Sep 22, 2006)
Based upon the movie, which was based upon the novel by Mario Puzo, published way back in 1972, The Godfather: The Game recaps the main events of the film with your character acting in the background of all those instantly recognizable scenes from the film (and more). Sneaking around the palatial mansion of Hollywood producer Woltz to deliver a (dripping) package; the meeting between Sollozo, Michael Corleone and the police Captain that ended with a bang and brains splattered on walls; repaying Paulie's disloyalty; watching Luca Brasi take his dying breaths (something I always thought he deserved -- he had his own baby thrown into a furnace!); and going to the mattresses in a bloody gang war; if it was part of the film it seems to be jammed into the game. (It doesn't stick to the source material at all costs, there are some liberties taken.) If you're a fan, it's pretty fun stuff, even if the main story arch is over so damn quick.
Gamernode (Sep 25, 2006)
The biggest question surrounding The Godfather on the Xbox 360 is whether or not it's worth a purchase to owners of a current-gen version. It's not easy to give a direct answer, as fans of the movie or the current-gen version of the game will most likely want to give the game a look. Given the innovation and online multiplayer found in Saints Row, The Godfather falls short of being the superior sandbox title on 360. It's definitely a quality game that Xbox 360 owners shouldn't be quick to pass over, but if you were annoyed by the game's repetitiveness or didn't enjoy The Godfather in your first go around, then there isn't enough here to warrant a purchase.

The Godfather is a solid new entry in the popular open-ended crime genre, but it isn't without its flaws. While this 360 version added a few new aspects, it retained the same clunky controls and problems that the current-gen versions had.

Like a lot of games based on films, The Godfather has an already-bedded storyline basis to become an absolutely amazing videogame. Sadly, too, it suffers from a few irritating (though mostly forgivable) niggles that stop it from ever being as critically acclaimed as its filmic counterpart. These aside, The Godfather: The Game does the series proud, providing an immersive and gratifying gaming experience based on its big brother of a motion picture, which is more than can be said for the incredibly bad The Incredibles or the frosty reception given to Ice Age 2, at any rate.

It is difficult to dislike The Godfather as EA have been so faithful to everything we loved about the films, but this is the undoing of the game also. It would have been forgivable to exaggerate the gameplay in places in order to make it more entertaining. But The Godfather is a game for the purists and in order to please it has to feel genuine, The Godfather certainly is.

[2nd review] The Godfather takes two often maligned subgenres, the Grand Theft Auto clone and the movie tie-in, and mashes them together into one tasty serving of gaming lasagna (Okay, guess I couldn’t get through this review without a pasta joke, sorry). The Xbox 360 version provides a fair amount of enhancements and new features that will appeal to those who’ve played the previous renditions of the game. While the game’s technical foibles and sometimes frustrating difficulty are something of a detriment, this game is still quite a bit of fun and definitely worth a spin in your console. Someday, EA, and that day may never come, I’ll call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, accept these scores… as a gift.
Defunct Games (Nov 29, 2006)
It took six extra months to bring The Godfather to the Xbox 360 and all we get are slightly better graphics and an online leader board. This is still a great action game that is well worth playing, but at $60 you should expect a lot more than a current generation game with a facelift.
Totally Gaming Network (Oct 05, 2006)
Despite all of that, The Godfather The Game is one of the best movie to videogame efforts to date. The good storyline coupled with it’s depth and wonderful acting make it an experience that Godfather fans will certainly enjoy. Now we can all live the mysterious life of a big time gangster without the worry of the long jail sentence. Or the cement shoes!

Gamestyle (Oct, 2006)
There is no escaping from the fact that, without Grand Theft Auto, The Godfather game would probably not exist, or at least not in this format. GTA's influence is visible but not to the same extent of Saints Row; instead EA wisely focuses on the source material that provides plenty of gaming opportunities.

The Godfather is another open world game which falls short of the mark Grand Theft Auto made. It captures a lot of the spirit of the movie, but fails to match the gameplay standards which we've come to expect of an open world shooter. Buy this for memories of the movie, or just go rent the movie and watch it. Either one will give the same result only one will cost you $5 and the other $50. Take your pick.

With a longer, more substantial campaign mode, a bit more polish and less pointless peripheral missions we could have been talking about The Godfather more fondly, but as it is, its place is history is as a flawed GTA clone that really didn't need porting to the 360.
