Gaming Age (Jun 22, 2012)
So while I do tend to be pretty positive about the LEGO series as a whole, it’s also easy to see that this is the best effort Traveler’s Tales has put into the franchise as of yet. I’d say the last time I felt suitably impressed was with the work they did bringing Hogwarts alive in the first Harry Potter title, and the use of Gotham City here certainly outclasses that. So, needless to say, I urge you to check out LEGO Batman 2, and I’m sure you’ll get just as much enjoyment out of the experience as I did.
Trimming off dead-weight as often as it adds something new, this is the strongest LEGO game yet. We've had seven years' worth of iterations, but these cheeky blocks of plastic are still fantastic.

Consistently charming and funny, and constructed with the same carefully layered challenges that have come to define the series, Lego Batman 2 is an absolute joy even for adult gamers. For kids, it'll be a revelation.
Calm Down Tom (Jun 28, 2012)
Lego Batman 2 is chockablock with replayability and quirky references to the comics. The amount of time you can invest exploring Gotham, fighting bad guys and saving the day provides you with a feeling of satisfaction you might struggle to find in other games, especially if you have a girlfriend or child to share the experience with as the dynamic duo. Everyone should buy this game just to punch Superman in his smug face a few times, and you might even have fun saving the world while you’re at it.
NZGamer (Jun 26, 2012)
Overall LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes is just what the doctor ordered. It’s fun, clever, charming, action-packed, replayable, and, above all, loyal to DC Comics and the LEGO videogame universe. I totally dig games intended for both young hands and old minds alike and once again, Traveller’s Tales have delivered.
ZTGameDomain (Jun 26, 2012)
After all is said and done, LEGO Batman 2 is still a LEGO game. You collect the same LEGO studs, beat up some goons and collect stuff; a lot of stuff. If you missed something the first time around, you can go back with all the characters you unlocked and try to collect the rest. It also does some new things and throws in a ton of fan service. The Batman theme Danny Elfman composed is the main source of music that plays in the background. When you fly as Superman, the John Williams-composed Superman theme plays. On top of that, we are treated to a good story, some pretty decent voice acting and a huge world to play around in. While TT did a fantastic job with this game, there are a few problems that need to be worked out but in all, they set the bar a little bit higher for their next adventure that I can only hope will be a LEGO Marvel game.
LEGO Batman 2 certainly delivers plenty of gameplay for your money. The story levels alone will take you about fifteen hours to complete if you want to break apart every object that you can find, and there are far more hours of gameplay to be had fully exploring Gotham City and its environs and discovering all of its secrets. Take the repetitive aspects of the gameplay aside, along with the minor frustrations of navigation and flight, and you have a game that will keep you playing happily for quite some time.
XboxAchievements (Jul 11, 2012)
LEGO Batman 2 is the best LEGO title to date and one that uses all of the source material on offer to wonderful effect. Tightly constructed levels interplay brilliantly with the freedom of roaming the Gotham streets and that usual attitude of snagging all the studs, bricks and characters has never been so alluring. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes isn’t just an immensely fun game, it’s a funny one as well, and one that never gets tired of having the last laugh.
Console Monster (Jul 10, 2012)
All of this and I haven’t even mentioned the amazing John Williams soundtrack every time you play as Superman and fly into the air, which is truly a special moment every time you do it.
Gaming Nexus (Nov 07, 2012)
It's not a very deep game, but LEGO Batman 2 manages to charm with its open world and large roster. Fans of DC will love how many characters show up, while everybody else will have a good time taking down the Joker once again. Best of all, this game sets things up for the far more interesting LEGO Justice League adventure that is bound to be announced any time now!
Game Over Online (Jul 09, 2012)
While LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes suffers from a few questionable design decisions, none of the them ultimately detract from what is an excellent adventure. The fact that the characters are no longer silent gave a lot of fans a moment of pause, but I really think it worked for the better... although I'm curious to see how it will work if they stick with movie properties (like the upcoming LEGO Lord of the Rings). But taken as the sum of its parts, fans of the LEGO series should rejoice! As I said initially, I haven't had this much fun with one of these games since LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga. This one is definitely worth checking out!
GameFocus (Jul 09, 2012)
Despite some of the hiccups transitioning to a sandbox game, Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes is a lot of fun to play. Traveller’s Tales took some risks with this entry in the series, and for the most part, they all pay off. The inclusion of such a great cast seems squandered at first, but there are plenty of reasons to go back and replay entire portions of the game over and over again to get the most out of all the characters. Though the core of the game remains almost identical to every Lego game that’s come before, Lego Batman 2 feels like the first true upgrade the franchise has gotten in years. Hopefully future entries in the Lego brand will continue to build on what Traveller’s Tales has started here.
AusGamers (Jul 27, 2012)
Again, the collectathon component is what will get most people over the line, or for Batman fans, being able to play around in a fully realised LEGO Gotham. It’s a giant game with excellent visuals that will keep fans well and truly interested, and is one of the better LEGO titles in recent times.
Videogameszone (Jul 05, 2012)
Game Informer Magazine (Jun 19, 2012)
Traveller’s Tales took some chances with Lego Batman 2. The addition of spoken dialogue paid off well, and I hope it becomes a standard for all of this developer’s games moving forward. Transferring the classic Lego gameplay into a vast overworld is also a success, but the redundancy in secret solutions in this play space hurts the experience, almost turning it into a mundane collect-a-thon. Thankfully, the classic Lego gameplay dominates the main game, making Lego Batman 2 another goofy brick-building blast to play.
80 (Jun 19, 2012)
Despite these inconsistencies, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes is a great LEGO game - my favourite to date. The risky addition of dialogue pays off, allowing Traveller's Tales to run wild in a way previously impossible with the series. Exploration and discovery have never been as good in a LEGO game, and the slew of famous faces will make any comic nut weep happy tears into their first edition copy of Batman Returns. If there was a series entry to prove that LEGO games aren't just for kids, it's this.
GamesRadar (Jun 24, 2012)
LEGO Batman 2’s greatest strength is not only in how it balances its difficulty and length, but also in how the sandbox world will give you way more playtime and challenges to solve afterwards. Also, players can choose to be Superman and solve problems easily or play with Batman to make them more challenging. LEGO Batman 2 is a great game for Batman fans, young and old. If you are looking to share a good gaming experience with a younger gamer, or want to indoctrinate your children in the ways of Batman, this game will be perfect. If you are a longtime Bat-o-phile looking for a deep gaming experience, LEGO Batman 2 has enough collectibles to keep you busy nearly as long as Arkham City.
The Guardian (Jun 19, 2012)
Lego Batman 2: DC Heroes isn't groundbreaking but it is consistently fun, and while it might not take top honours for best Batman game of all time (that belt is still held by Batman: Arkham City), it's easily the best Lego game we've seen in years.
Digital Spy (Jun 21, 2012)
Despite feeling instantly familiar, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes isn't just more of the same. It improves the core gameplay of the series, adds new features and characters, offers a long, engaging and well-presented story and swaps the hub area for a visually rich and fun-packed Gotham City to explore. There are issues that need addressing in the open world, but this is still the best LEGO game in the franchise so far.
Meristation (Jun 22, 2012)
Quarter to Three (Jun 25, 2012)
Real world Legos were historically about building things and using your imagination. The Lego videogames, ironically, are about breaking things and collecting licensed doo-dads. Developer Traveller’s Tales has made a science out of optimized breaking and collecting, with each game better than the last. Since boys of all ages (and genders!) love breaking things and collecting stuff, it really doesn’t matter that this is the polar opposite of what once made Legos great. I’m not complaining. If I want to build things and use my imagination, I have Minecraft and books. But if I want to break stuff and collect things, there no way quite so mindlessly obliging as Lego Batman 2.
G4 Tech: Tech TV (Jun 26, 2012)
These are relatively minor problems when stacked up against the sheer inventiveness of the levels and the fun of playing as iconic DC characters. The combination of LEGO and license has resulted in mixed results ranging from spectacular to mundane, but LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes definitely leans in the direction of the former. LEGO fans will enjoy it, DC fans will love it, and fans of both…well, you probably already have it. With just the right balance of new ideas and familiar gaming comfort food, LEGO Batman 2 should please all but the most curmudgeonly of gamers.
XGN (Jun 27, 2012)
Consigliato.
InsideGamer (Jun 20, 2012)
Armchair Empire, The (Jul 12, 2012)
I would have torn LEGO Batman 2 a new navel had I not found the proper way to easily move from mission to mission. I The hub is too big and I don't think the navigation is properly explained. How about a fast travel option next time? Or much more obvious arrows point players in the right direction? Considering the age group the game is aimed at, this seems like a no-brainer for the next instalment.
Darkstation (Jul 24, 2012)
Lego Batman was a pretty great game and Lego Batman 2 really steps it up a notch. When each one of these games comes out I feel like they are always stepping with their best foot forward. While the levels can get repetitive and boring you can still have fun with a single play through or spice it up with some drop in drop out co-op although it’s local only which is kind of a bummer. The open world is a great addition and adds a lot more to the package as a whole. There is a great cast of characters complete with an equally great voice cast (including some of the animated DC shows) and with the other DC heroes and it feels like the developers are using this to test the waters for all of them to get their own games so let us hope this will finally give us a great Superman game!

God is a Geek (Jun 28, 2012)
My expectations were low for this game, I had felt that the LEGO adaptations of titles were becoming a little stale and very repetitive. However, changes such as the addition of voices and an emphasis on the relationship between the main characters in the game makes the title feel very fresh. The basic game mechanics remain undeniably similar, but certain tweaks and slight changes do improve the experience and make the game stand out from those that came before. The fact that the Batman and DC Super Hero universe is so dense with interesting and popular characters of course makes this easier, but even for those that don’t know much about the world of DC, the game is enjoyably and genuinely funny. The Dark Knight Returns, and he returns with a bang.

Cheat Happens (Jul 09, 2012)
After 15 years, the Lego games were at a bit of a crossroads -- evolve or get left behind; and Lego Batman 2: DC Superheroes is the answer. It may not be a complete refresh of the series, but it does manage to create some good ideas with that are already in place. This combined with great visuals may not be the long term answer for Lego, but it does make Lego Batman 2 the best Lego game we've seen.
At the end of the day Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes is a good game, but it still could have been so much more. As I played I found that the addition of the open world of Gotham City was great, but the overall gameplay still sticks to the tried and true formula of so many Lego games before it. Add to this some control issues and collision detection problems that should have been fixed, and you have some areas that just take away from what could have been. In the end does this mean you won’t have fun with it? Absolutely not, as the voice acting and all the new characters are very enticing indeed. If you are a fan of superheroes and/or a fan of the Lego franchise of games, Lego Batman 2 will attract you for sure, if you don’t find yourself in this category though, feel free to take a look at this game anyhow, as you might just find yourself surprised at what is offered.
XboxAddict (Jul 13, 2012)
Overall, I still think the usual fans will tune in - Fans of the Lego Games and fans of the Batman series. There's nothing wrong with the game that stops me from recommending it to you. You know exactly what you're getting into with Lego Games nowadays, so it's just a matter of deciding upon whether you want to purchase it now, or later on down the line if you are interested, and whether the content appeals to you enough. As a side note, the game comes with a trailer for Lego Lord of the Rings as well, which should be our next jaunt down Lego Road come October.

Being able to play so many iconic DC heroes and villains is a refreshing change of pace and offers fans of more obscure characters a chance to see them in action. Hopefully, the developers will release new friends and foes as downloadable content. It would be nice to see Justice League Dark fighting along with the more traditional characters.
Gamer Limit (Jun 26, 2012)
While it may be a step up for the franchise, it doesn’t do anything radical that will sway non-fans. LEGO Batman 2 may encourage more exploration, but thematically, and gameplay wise, it’s still relatively simplistic.
Destructoid (Jun 28, 2012)
If you're a fan of the LEGO titles, there's a lot to enjoy in LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, and the new bits Traveller's Tales added -- when they work -- work wonderfully. When they don't, though, be prepared to buy a new controller as you hurl the one in your hands through the wall.
XboxFrance (Aug 30, 2012)
The Video Game Critic (Aug 13, 2012)
A big game with a lot of play value, Lego Batman 2 is probably the best Lego title so far.
70 (Jun 18, 2012)
It’s still not a full reinvention of the Lego template but it is one of the most enjoyable uses of it so far, with an open world Gotham and a cast of characters to rival Arkham City.
Games TM (Jun 20, 2012)
This is not a franchise that ever needed to be chucking its easily lost plastic hat into GTA’s open world ring, so the shift in format is admirable if not entirely successful. If nothing else, it serves as evidence that Traveller’s Tales is listening to its critics and is unwilling to sit back as ‘those guys that keep making the same Lego game’. Pirates slipped back into the old format a little but between this and The Clone Wars, the studio has made it evident that it is keen to push new ideas on a franchise that has such comfortable, money-stuffed laurels constantly beckoning it to take a load off.
70 (Jun 27, 2012)
Worth Playing (Jun 30, 2012)
With a little more polish, LEGO Batman 2 could have been a high point of the franchise. Instead, it's merely another enjoyable entry in the lineup of LEGO games. If you've already mastered all the previous LEGO titles, then by all means, pick it up and have fun. But if you still have a LEGO backlog, you'd be better served by either LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean or LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7. Both are better, overall experiences.
Gameplanet (Jul 09, 2012)
Lego Batman 2 is packed with fun DC Universe content, tricky puzzles and compulsive collecting, but it’s let down by the repetitive and often tedious combat mechanics. It’s virtually impossible to fail, making the real challenge one of player interest. Combined with clunky controls, there’s enough wrong to prevent this game from becoming a Lego classic.
Level 7 (Jul 22, 2012)
GameSpot (Jun 22, 2012)
Lego Batman 2 contains the same strengths and weaknesses as the many games that came before it. Worthwhile additions such as the open world show the potential for where this series could go, but the core mechanics suffer from the same problems in every iteration. Although it's still as fun as ever to collect Lego bricks and watch the cutscenes, the lack of real change leads to the feeling that you've seen all this before. Batman is a meticulous self-improver; it would be nice if his Lego games had the same mentality.
Official XBox Magazine (Jun 19, 2012)
If Lego Batman 2 is a test run for a Lego DC Super Heroes game in the future, it’ll hopefully serve as a guide for what needs improvement (the flying controls for characters like Superman are unintuitive and touchy) and what should be avoided (it’s okay to tease, but not insult, your heroes). If so, that should be the Lego game you buy — and not rent like this one.
Giant Bomb (Jun 29, 2012)
There's an undeniable charm to Lego Batman 2, from the pithy superhero banter to the nonstop swells of the old Danny Elfman Batman theme from the Tim Burton era (and let's be thankful the developer stuck with that Batman, instead of trying to shoehorn the brooding Christopher Nolan version in here). The game is still full of clever little uses of the Lego itself, such as waterfalls and fire effects that are made out of Lego studs, and that big Joker robot that looks like it's a real-life Lego set just waiting to happen. If the fundamentals were a little more refined or the new ideas a little more fully implemented, I'd feel better about recommending it wholeheartedly, but given the new elements in play here, you can at least take heart that Traveller's Tales isn't resting on its laurels.
D+PAD Magazine (Sep 04, 2012)
Like all the Lego games, the build/collect/smash em up nature is still just as addictive and the design is both brilliant and awful in equal measures. It’s heart-warming and fun, two things which most comic games (and indeed comics) lose out on when they ham-fistedly attempt to be ‘mature’. It’s a grind though, so I think I’ll sit the next few Lego games out while I regain the stamina to go through it all again. And I will go through it again.
Gamereactor (Sweden) (Jun 25, 2012)
