There is still a ton of content in DotP 2014, enough to last players for multiple hours. Newcomers should fear nothing. The series has always had an amazing tutorial and 2014 improves on it even more. The online play is still a blast to play with friends, and while somewhat limited, players can finally make their own personal decks and show them off to their friends. Magic 2014 has all the bells and whistles that the previous games had, adds some new things while refining almost every aspect and lets players customize their hard work. Those who liked the past few games and even those looking to play Magic: The Gathering for the very first time should all pick up Duels of the Plainswalkers 2014. I can’t suggest it enough.

For those familiar with Magic: The Gathering, Magic 2014 offers a great blend of modes and smart improvements to dueling that make for a far less frustrating experience than previous installments. Magic 2014 is the jewel in the Stainless Games crown, and a shining example of the rewards of iterative development.

As mentioned at the beginning of the article, when I first played Magic the Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014 I was expecting the same experience as last year, simply with new decks. The fact that Magic the Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014 brings a new game mode, in the shape of Sealed Play, to the table (excuse the pun) really adds to the Magic the Gathering feel. I’ve found building my owns decks to be one of the most enjoyable elements the game and this is really the feature that makes this year's iteration a must-have for Magic the Gathering fans.

Putting tactile sensation aside, this iteration of Magic: The Gathering is a great representation of the physical card-game. It is, in fact, superior in many ways. As an educator and a facilitator of friendly competition, Magic 2014: Duels of the Planeswalkers is a near essential purchase for anyone interested in trading cards.
The Digital Fix (Aug 01, 2013)
With an initial Campaign that clocks in at around ten hours plus a secondary campaign, and almost unlimited online replay value thanks to the superb Sealed Play (which itself has a third single-player campaign), there are dozens of hours of card-battling fun available in Magic 2014. Unlocks are plentiful and with thirty locked cards per deck, it will take you many, many victories to fully open and complete every available deck. It’s difficult to see where the series can progress to from here, but we’re looking forward to what Stainless Games produces next for the granddaddy of CCGs.

Needless to say, Duels of the Planewalkers 2014 is the most-refined instalment in the series to date. Visually, it has only received a few touch-ups though the improved campaign and inclusion of Sealed Play have propelled the franchise to new heights.
LevelUp (Jul 09, 2013)
IGN (Jun 29, 2013)
Magic 2014 remains a great, convenient, and affordable way to enjoy this now 20-year old card game. Slivers are a lot of fun to command and sealed decks provide more freedom than ever to build your own army. The only issue is the clunky manner in which it runs. Every small screen change and player move seems to be a monumental effort for the engine. Still, I love the varying challenges this version throws at us and hope to be playing Magic 2015 in a year’s time.
AusGamers (Jul 24, 2013)
The game’s presentation has lifted over the past few years, but it’s still quite slow to move through (not always a bad thing for newcomers), and a bit more animation and liveliness wouldn’t go astray (something to the level of Blizzard’s forthcoming Hearthstone could really go a long way to livening up the game, but these gripes are merely cosmetic. The only other thing on my wishlist here is the inclusion of a Local multiplayer option so the wife and I can fight for bragging rights in the house as to who’s the best magician. Beyond that, Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014 is probably the best place for anyone to jump into Magic for the first time and is great value for money for its breadth of gameplay and content.
Meristation (Jul 09, 2013)

Game Informer Magazine (Jul 11, 2013)
Duels of the Planeswalkers isn't the full Magic experience. It's a taste of the broader landscape to entice players and make them more comfortable attending a casual Friday Night Magic event. If you're new to Magic: The Gathering, Duels of the Planeswalkers remains the best way to learn how to play without the intimidation of other players. Even with the online connection issues and additional purchases tied to making the most of Sealed mode, this is the best version to date. It's easy to recommend for new players just learning and veteran spellslingers looking for new single-player matches.
Gaming Age (Jul 19, 2013)
This Magic series is a bit of a quandary for me. I love deep and polished card games, especially virtual, where I don't have to have a friend that plays. Yu-Gi-Oh and Marvel Trading Card Game were two of my absolute favorites and cards in those games are unlocked through progress in the single player game. There are entire sets of cards from the paper versions of the games, and they allow for unlimited deck building. Magic: The Gathering is a fantastic card game, long standing and one of the best. But these games are little more than a enjoyable advertisement for the paper game or Magic Online. So much so that there are obtrusive ads in the game about buying boxes of paper cards and joining the local Magic community.

"Magic: Duels of the Planeswalker 2014" ist kein schlechtes Spiel, aber ich erhoffe mir jedenfalls, dass es im Nachfolger wieder mehr Mut zur Innovation gibt.
