God is a Geek (Nov 28, 2010)
You know you’re playing a special game when the only “fault” you can find relates to skipping cut-scenes and restarting events. Every other aspect of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is so expertly crafted that it is hard not fall in love with it; it’s just an incredible amount of fun. Not only does it live up to its title, it surpasses it with considerable ease. Without a shadow of a doubt, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is the quintessential arcade racing game of this generation. Ironically, the only title that comes close is Criterion Games previous effort, Burnout Paradise.
Joystiq (Nov 09, 2010)
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit may have been a late entrant into the race, but it both grabs the checkered flag for this year and may set a land speed record for this entire class of racer.
1UP (Nov 15, 2010)
While Blur and Split/Second may have beaten it to store shelves, when it comes to the finish line in terms of quality, Hot Pursuit decidedly takes the lead.

GameSpy (Nov 17, 2010)
Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit is all about the thrill. Whether you're immersed in a tense, low-speed cat and mouse standoff, praying you don't nail a spike strip at 200 MPH, or simply drinking in the carnage you hath wrought, you'll find little else like it.
That Gaming Site (Nov 27, 2010)
Criterion Games has demonstrated that they know racing games. Hot Pursuit brings Need for Speed back into the spotlight. It's not the cinematic cut scenes or storyline that defines Need for Speed. It is about the speed and participating in a challenging race with a close finish. Racing purists will flock to Gran Turismo 5, but those interested in exotic cars and high-speed chases should look towards Hot Pursuit. Along with Autolog which promotes high competition between you and your racer friends, its not hard to see how this is one of the best racing games to hit the stores this year.
We Got This Covered (Dec 01, 2010)
All in all, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit is an excellent game. It offers great arcade style racing with top notch visuals and an incredible sense of speed. It is a great counterpoint to the more simulation-based Gran Turismo and Forza series. If arcade style racing games are your forte, this is a recommended buy.
AusGamers (Nov 30, 2010)
For sheer exhilarating fun, it is hard to fault NFS:HP. It is definitely more fun playing through the game as a Racer, but it is nice to see the Cops return to the series in such a spectacular form.
Made2Game (Nov 16, 2010)
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit is pure Arcade action, you’ll know it from the moment you power slide around a corner at 200mph in a SeaCrest County Lamborghini police car. Not since Burnout has there been a racer that offers so much joy, and to be honest we can’t see there being anything to touch this in terms of speed until Criterion release the sequel.
Level (Sweden) (Dec, 2010)
Thunderbolt Games (Nov 23, 2010)
The only other disappointment is that career mode and Xbox Live play are really the only modes offered. There’s no quick race option for when you just want to select a track, set the parameters for the race and go. This proves to be just a small quibble though because once you open up a bit of the career mode, there’s always a race available to fit whatever itch you need to satisfy, whether you want to drive at dusk in the rain at the wheel of an American muscle car or if you want to hit a nice dry piece of tarmac in an import in the desert. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is easily the most enjoyable racing game that I’ve played this year, and definitely the most thrilling. This is a game that fans will not be able to put down and though it may be a little sparse on game modes, it is an experience that racing fans absolutely cannot afford to miss.
90 (UK) (Nov 09, 2010)
Otherwise, though, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is an unqualified triumph. It's stuffed with content but rarely for the sake of it, and knowing Criterion it will be handsomely supported for months to come, even though it's already the best pure arcade racing game since Burnout Paradise. For Need for Speed, it's a return to critical form to match, justify and potentially expand the series' enduring popularity.
XboxAchievements (Nov 18, 2010)
After countless sacrilegious efforts in the Need For Speed franchise, Criterion has finally done the label some justice by bringing the heart back to the franchise. It looks like that Criterion did lose their way ever so slightly at times, losing what makes Hot Pursuit so much fun, but as a Need For Speed package, this is the best title in nearly a decade.

Acclaimed for their Burnout work, under the Need for Speed banner, Criterion Games shows they can double-dip in a category and succeed with telltale execution. Fast and at times unforgiving, Hot Pursuit delivers that escapist feeling by breaking real-world laws with gaming that might show a few rough edges during solo play, but that otherwise excels by leveraging tight mechanics for a socially minded multiplayer affair.
GameSpot (Nov 17, 2010)
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is one of the most thrilling racing games around. It doesn't matter which side of the law you prefer to play on; the unpredictable nature of these events and the sheer speed at which they're played make this a tough game to put down. If you're in the market for a ride with superb handling, great looks, an impressive top speed, and more than enough room for all of your friends, this is the one you want.
All in all, Hot Pursuit is a good return to what made Most Wanted such a good game, without all of the added junk that made previous NFS entries poorer than they should have been. If you haven't acquired this racer yet, then it may be worth a shot, especially if you're looking for that grown-up Mario Kart experience.
Giant Bomb (Nov 19, 2010)
Hot Pursuit has some of the best online play that the Need For Speed series has ever seen.
games xtreme (Nov 24, 2010)
It has the fun of Burnout and the lure of performance cars and so on from Need for Speed, but it just feels like there are so many missed opportunities for action and more thrills. Perhaps in the sequel, this is inevitable knowing EA.
XboxFrance (Nov 26, 2010)

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is a good return to form to the franchise that is desperately trying to pick what direction it wants to go in. But in its struggle not to seem like just a retread of EA's other racing franchise it ends up looking more like a bare bones little brother of it. I am not sure if EA will continue in this series, but this was still a great new beginning for the two pronged approach they are building up. Although isn't it weird that the first Hot Pursuit was called NFS3, the second Hot Pursuit was 2, and the third one was simply Hot Pursuit? The game was already going backwards before it even started. There's definitely a metaphor in there.
Brash Games (Dec 07, 2010)
We were expecting something groundbreaking here. An open world would have helped a lot in this instance, and while we wouldn’t condone the overly complex world of say, Midnight Club, a move away from rigid mechanics would have been a welcome one. Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit is well worth a bash, particularly if you like Criterion titles in general. Don’t expect too much of their trademark crash mechanics, as everything has been toned down somewhat to allow the rather pedestrian addition of police cars to come out. The next in the reboot needs to have more thrills to really make the name Need For Speed stand out like it used to.
