Nyan-Tech is a retro-style platform game where the goal is simply to guide a small cat-girl to collect a key and reach the goal of each stage. There's a twist, though: Many of the platforms and objects in each stage are activated or deactivated by various buttons on the controller, similar to the earlier Ninja Bros. from the same developer. This means that the player may have to, for example, hold the left bumper, X, and B while jumping with A, then release X in the middle of the jump in order to reach the next platform.

There are 30 stages total (plus ten bonus secret stages), with the design of most focused on the esoteric button combinations needed to proceed. Each stage also has a timer, which will fortunately only count down when the player character is actually moving; stop for a breather or to plan a course, and the timer will stop.
