I want to keep gushing about all of the options available to you in Orcs Must Die, but I feel like I need to leave something for you to discover. If you love variety, humor and a challenging game that will force you to re-evaluate every situation, you need to do yourself a favor and pick up Orcs Must Die. Robot Entertainment has a classic on their hands that I hope sees as much as love in the future as was put into the development of the game. If someone in that studio wants to get real crazy, they could extend the life of their game by adding co-op, a map editor and a store to share user creations. There are so many possibilities for future content but you won’t be begging for that so quickly with hours of replay-ability in the shipped title.

Orcs Must Die embellishes your devious side, encouraging you to devise clever ways of fulfilling the command of the title. For the not-so-clever, mowing down invaders with an automatic crossbow is also a great time. Whatever your approach, an orc's pain is your gain. You must download, because Orcs Must Die.

Below its cartoony surface and morbid fascination with killing orcs in as many brutal ways as possible, Orcs Must Die! is a surprisingly deep and challenging game that begs you to delve into it and slaps you until you do it right. The occasional difficulty spikes and the wealth of tools at your disposal may overwhelm some players at times, but fans of the genre can sink their teeth in enough content to keep playing it for hours on end. For the latter kind of players, any of the gripes with frustration caused by trial-and-error designs will vanish in the face of the sheer amount of time you're going to spend fully completing it -- and the fun you'll have as Orcs Must Die! tempts and taunts you.

Any fan of action tower defense will feel right at home, but it’s also a great place for anyone new to the genre to try it out as it’s so beautifully delivered for players of any ability to pickup and learn.

Overall, the gameplay is solid and offers a good balance of third-person action and tower defense. There’s plenty of traps and items to use, and a good number of levels to go through. I just wish a few more modes would have been implemented, namely co-op. Still, tower defense fans should find joy in leading thousands of orcs to their demise.

Bewildering stuff, really, but Orcs Must Die! does more right than wrong: its best trick is your integration as the 'hero' character amidst all the usual contraptions, combining that tower defence skill of balancing fixed positions with the ability to get in the mixer and manipulate the crowd. Rewarding and frustrating in equal measure, but rarely boring, it's a memorable dose of mass slaughter.
