Volition it seems has made a new standard in over the top…no really I don’t think you understand… they went over the top before. Now they had to raise the bar in standards as well, just so they could go over the top of that.
As I mentioned above there are likely many who have pre-ordered Grand Theft Auto 5 and are not even entertaining the thought of purchasing Saints Row IV. This would be unfortunate and frankly a mistake as they would be missing out on a remarkable game. Saints Row IV likely stands as the most ambitious game for developer Volition as they took some chances with the addition of super powers and aliens. The result however is a game that is rich and deep with personality and unmatched ridiculousness. Saints Row IV is exactly what I needed this summer. It takes everything that I love about sandbox style gaming and makes it better. Strap it on folks because it’s time for the ride of your life!

Overall Saints Row 4 is definitely the top in the series, and probably one of the best sandbox titles out there right now. Sure, it may be over the top, but Volition knows that and plays up to it every chance they get. Saints Row 4 is one of the best sandbox titles out there and knows how to keep gamers coming back for more.

In almost every moment, Saints Row 4 feels like playing a cheesy superhero movie. Tied together by parody and pastiche, the whole world is just an excuse to throw gameplay variety at the player, and I felt like an over-powered badass throughout. It's not sophisticated or subtle, nor does it want to be. And the game's open stance on character customization and gender let me play the way I wanted to. Saints Row IV made me feel superhuman — and that's what this kind of game is all about.
Saints Row IV is a videogame. A videogame that wants you to have fun. That might seem like the simplest of explainations, but a lot of games these days can forget those basics, or how to really bring them to players. Saints Row IV never forgets.

If you’re put off from picking up Saints Row IV because you think it should be the expansion it was originally set out to be, I’d urge you to pick it up and give it ago. There’s easily over 30 hours of humour-filled craziness to be had in virtual Steelport. The gameplay is brilliantly done, and it’s the first game in a long time that genuinely had me laughing to myself on numerous occasions. On the downside, there are a few technical issues with screen tearing and frame rate drops, and on more than one occasion my console froze mid-session. Annoying yes, but it’s certainly not game-breaking enough to take away from the brilliance that Saints Row IV has to offer. The addition of super powers does take away from the some of the gameplay that helped shape the series, but the additional positives they add far outweigh any negatives. Saints Row IV is certainly not to be missed.

If "Saints Row" was a GTA game with the serial numbers filed off then "Saints Row IV" is a blend of Mass Effect, Crackdown and Prototype. It's sheer fun to play and adds a very effective coda to the series. With an entertaining story, fun open world events and slick super-powered mayhem there's always something to keep you entertained while you're playing. I would have ideally liked to see a few more types of secondary mission and there are a few bugs in the game that need to be ironed out but these do not detract significantly from the play experience. Reducing its score a little for these minor flaws, I give "Saints Row IV" an overall score of 8.5 and thoroughly recommend it to newcomers and experienced "Saints Row" players alike.

Ultimately, with a series like Saints Row it’s really about wreaking chaos and just having mindless fun. Saints Row IV is the perfect game to come home to after a long day at work and unwind. It’s ludicrous, it’s big, and it’s a spectacular recovery from the disappointing predecessor. I can’t even begin to imagine what Volition has in store for us for future Saints releases, but if their latest offering is any indication of where the series is headed…then I’m in!

But then you'll play a mission while baked on alien narcotics - temporarily affording you unlimited powers, of course - and all is forgiven in the chaos that follows. Saints Row 4 may lack refinement - nothing thwarts a superhero quite so frequently as an overhanging roof or your homies standing in a doorway - but it compensates with sheer exuberance. It's a heartfelt love letter to the superhero genre and to a medium that makes such madness possible. There's a fine art to being this gloriously dumb, it seems, which pretty much makes Saints Row 4 the Sistine Chapel ceiling of stupidity.

Okej, Saints Row. Vad du än vill. Bara jag får flyga lite också!
The Digital Fix (Aug 05, 2013)
Saints Row 4 does a fantastic job of moulding adult content with good old fashioned fun. Whilst not at all perfect, it is a game loaded with content, is easy to pick up and play with enough 80’s tunes to keep you smiling and playing for many many hours. Balls out fun from start to finish, you should play, you will smile throughout and don’t forget those romance scenes mocking Mass Effect, they are a delight.
The Telegraph (Sep 07, 2013)
It makes a real difference, suggesting a confidence on Volition’s part that is well deserved. You get the feeling they had a lot of fun making this game, further slipping away from the shadow of GTA to do their own, utterly bonkers thing. And doing it very well indeed.

Even with the screen tearing and sporadic glitches, unimpressive graphics, generic and forgettable antagonist and over-powered abilities, I have to admit, I couldn’t get enough of Saints Row IV, once it hit stride. I smashed out every side mission, completed every activity (which I highly recommend), gained ultimate crew loyalty and laughed my goddamned arse off. It caught me unawares many times over with an unexpectedly placed song, a nostalgic throwback to previous Saints Row adventures, an old adversary I thought long dead, inventive riffing of other gaming franchises or a completely different gameplay style out of no-where. It may not be the prettiest looking thing out there, but it’s one hell of a good time.

IGN (Aug 14, 2013)
With its recycled map and wildly overpowered abilities, playing Saints Row IV feels like a lot like enabling god-like cheat codes in Saints Row The Third and going nuts. Its ridiculous story, goofy characters, self-aware humor, and amazing character editor make it all work, especially for those of us who’ve played the previous games and can appreciate its in-jokes. But its appeal is shortened by the ludicrous speed at which we can zip across it and grow tired of its lack of challenge.

Unsophisticated and sloppily made but there’s a heart of gold beneath the game’s erratic exterior, as it successfully skewers some of gaming’s more pompous franchises.
Diehard GameFan (Aug 14, 2013)
Saints Row IV is a hilarious, over-the top experience that’s full of variety, satire and sheer content, even if it’s not the most original experience on the market.
