The Saw video game is a fascinating experiment, but it has many flaws that keep it from being truly great. Kaddy B. (796) 2.86 Stars2.86 Stars2.86 Stars2.86 Stars2.86 Stars

I think I should have disclosed before that I’m not really into the SAW series. I thought the first movie was a chaotic, implausible mess, the second a well-crafted thriller and haven’t seen 3 through 6. Having said that, this game is a solid franchise entry, not a disposable movie tie-in and it has me interested in heading back to the film series.

Saw may look and sound excellent but it does not play excellent. The gemeplay is decent but as the weakest part of this game, it's also the core of what makes every game great. More time should have been spent on more unique things to do in the world.

I actually really enjoyed this game, but I can't say it really wowed me though. It was short, repetitive and overall didn't add anything new to the genre, but somehow just like its movie counterpart, it had charm and didn't aim to do anything but provide enjoyment; something it succeeded in very well.

GameSpot (Oct 09, 2009)
This flawed horror adventure gets the atmosphere right, though it isn't as sharp as it could have been.
Game Informer Magazine (Oct 06, 2009)
In the end, Saw fails to deliver the suspenseful crescendos, surprising twists, and apprehensive atmosphere of the films. Instead, it’s padded with unremarkable gore, poor pacing, and uninspired level design. This game suffers from the same chronic affliction as the milked film franchise – it wears out its welcome quickly and asks too much for the price of admission.
Giant Bomb (Oct 12, 2009)
The game puts on a pretty good facade, affecting many of Saw's stylistic flares. There's lots of jarring camera shake, motion blur, and patchy focus effects, and the soundtrack is all industrial clangs and squeals, but in the end it's all window-dressing for a game that has more in common with Professor Layton than Condemned.

GameSpy (Oct 20, 2009)
I hoped that Konami could turn Saw into something worth playing. But it turns out it's just a crappy movie tie-in, pushed out just in time for the upcoming film. If the game series ends up iterating yearly like the movies do, I hope the future games inspire horror in me because they're genuinely scary, and not because I'm about to spend several hours torturing myself.

Unser Rat: Einen ganz großen Bogen drum machen!
