UFC 2009 Undisputed does have a couple of issues that keep it from being a MMA-fan's dream come true but it is still a tremendous title that will make any fan of the sport proud. While it comes up a little short in terms of extra bells and whistles, the developers spent a lot of time refining the gameplay and control scheme, which is what matters most in the end. Instead of a watered-down product that tried too hard to appeal to a mass market audience, Undisputed manages to remain 100% faithful to the product and look spectacular while doing so. It not only manages to deliver the game the UFC faithful have been longing for but adds an entirely unique and excellent experience to the broader fighting game genre, which is why it's also a title that non-MMA fans should look into. Who knows, you might just find yourself becoming a dedicated supporter of this fantastic sport.

Overall UFC Undisputed 2009 is as close to a complete package as you could hope for. The use of the Havoc engine is used as perfectly as you could hope and there's a real sense the game is made for people who have a love of the sport by people who also have a deep appreciation for the sport, it holds complexity while still managing to be fun along with it and while it may not be all that interesting for someone who doesn't care for the sport, if you're a fan of MMA and the UFC at large there's no real reason to not recommend this very fine title.
Game Over Online (Jun 04, 2009)
Yuke’s hard work has paid off in spades with UFC 2009: Undisputed. While the game may have taken more time than some fans would have liked to hit shelves, the wait was worth it as they delivered a top-shelf game in every area that counts and provided an amazing base that they can build upon in the future. Their debut MMA game already does a better job of replicating the sport than anything that’s come before it; I just hope that they don’t fall into the same trap as prior UFC game developers and rest on their laurels. Fortunately, I don’t think that’ll happen here. They’ve done such a good job with this game that I feel confident that we’ll just see better installments as the series continues. This is a definite must-buy game, although I would recommend downloading the demo first to use the tutorial and get the hang of the gameplay.
GameSpy (May 19, 2009)
Though a couple of things could stand some improvement for the next edition of this game -- namely more southpaw fighters, and lateral movement slightly faster than molasses -- those constraints hardly ruin the experience. Undisputed includes all the main MMA disciplines and fighters, along with a career mode that I can't stop playing. That's enough to keep even the most critical fans happy.

There are a lot of good things to say about UFC 2009 Undisputed, and I feel like I've said most of them in this review. The visuals are great, the controls are incredibly well-done, and the game is both easy to pick up and satisfyingly deep. If you're a fan of either the UFC or just fighting games in general, this is one complete package that you won't regret picking up.

Jeux Vidéo Network (May 30, 2009)
Official XBox Magazine (May 19, 2009)
Unlike Yuke’s’ recent WWE Legends, which used button-spamming quick-time events to make the game super-accessible, Undisputed is purposely complex and challenging. Casual players may balk at its learning curve, but UFC fans willing to invest some time will appreciate the payoff.
XboxAchievements (May 24, 2009)
UFC 2009 Undisputed is a fantastic recreation of one of the world’s fastest growing sports. The extensive roster, commentary, ring girls, Bruce Buffer and Classic Fights mode with Rachelle Leah ensures that the title is as authentic as they could have reproduced. Despite the stunning visuals though, UFC Undisputed remains on the brink of greatness with a bland career mode, steep learning curve and straightforward online mode. Although these may be fun, the constant match after match with little, to no variation means the game can get old fast. That being said, flash KO’s never get old ... especially online.
GamingBolt (Sep 20, 2009)
To sum up, UFC Undisputed is a must for the fighting fan, especially UFC fighting fans With the few little quirks that are easy to look past, Graphics are good, the hit detection my be a little off at times, voice over work from regular UFC announcers Joe Rogan & Mike Goldberg and ring announcer Bruce Buffer is great, so over all I’d say definitely worth dropping into the tray and giving it some time.
Giant Bomb (May 19, 2009)
If you're looking for a game you can play alone, UFC 2009 Undisputed will probably get pretty boring for you. Even with multiple difficulty settings, fighting the AI doesn't stay exciting for very long. But if you're in a household with multiple UFC fans or enjoy getting online, you'll love it.
80 (UK) (May 20, 2009)
If you're comfortable enough in your sexuality to be able to play game where muscular men regularly tussle with each other on the ground, as well as beating each other senseless, then Undisputed comes highly recommended.
80 (May 29, 2010)
UFC Undisputed 2010 is undoubtedly an improvement over its predecessor, but ultimately it's still a game for fans of the sport that will have limited appeal for the majority of people who have no understanding of what the Ultimate Fighting Championship is all about. You don't necessarily have to be an avid follower of Mixed Martial Arts to get the most out of UFC 2010 however, but it'll boost your enjoyment of the game if you are and UFC Undisputed 2010 is certainly good enough to make you more than a little curious as to what all the fuss is about. But fight fans beware - this isn't Street Fighter IV or Tekken. This is as real as it gets.
GameSpot (May 19, 2009)
Despite some clunky menus and the lackluster online performance, UFC 2009 Undisputed is a great fighting game that you don't have to be a fan of the sport to appreciate. Whether you're playing as a UFC superstar like Chuck Liddell or Georges St-Pierre, or nervously stepping into the octagon as an athletic approximation of yourself, great fights and good times are guaranteed.
Gamestyle (May 24, 2009)
The best way to describe UFC: Undisputed is as the Forza of the fighting world. It may be difficult to get to grips with, but once you do so it becomes one of the best fighting experiences around. It’s going to be hard for a sequel to top this.
Game Informer Magazine (Sep 22, 2009)
Undisputed is certainly a good start if THQ is hoping to kick up a yearly UFC gaming franchise. The character models look fantastic, clipping is almost a non-issue, and the fighting system offers some serious depth. This is by no means a pick-up-and-play fighter, though. Your created character will take plenty of lumps in the early career with the perfect storm of wimpy stats and a tough learning curve. But once you gain some traction, the thrill of victory snowballs and you feel like all of the training is paying off. I wish there were more modes like Classic Fights that show real fighter personalities. As it is, it's difficult to differentiate generic challengers from some of the lesser-known names in the sport.
IGN (May 19, 2009)
UFC 2009 Undisputed has its fair share of issues for an up-start franchise, but that doesn’t mean that UFC fans and non-fans alike won’t have fun with the game once they get the complexities figured out. The career mode is fun and well-designed, the combat is cool and visually engaging, and the classic fights mode is sure to please UFC aficionados. If THQ can fix the blemishes and speed things up quite a bit so the physicality and true athleticism of the sport can shine through, we could have a serious contender on our hands.
Good Game (May 25, 2009)
Apparently when the sport first started, it used to be a no holds barred all-in-event, but it’s more regulated now and it makes me think that the game would be more fun with less rules and maybe more locations. Like you say though Baj, it delivers the realism, and it’ll have an audience, that’s undisputed, I’m giving it 7.5.
Good Game (May 25, 2009)
I know there has been ufc games before, but this just feels like I’ve been given a huge manual to a sport I don’t really know much about the collisions are spot on, but realism isn’t always fun, and I didn’t enjoy my time here, I’m giving it 7/10. Also, this is going to sound picky, but I don’t need 6 sliding menus detailing what has been saved after every match.
