Biography edit · view history
Nicolas Gaume started in the game industry in the 80s, creating games for the Apple II.
In 1990, he founded Kalisto Entertainment (first named Atreid Concept), a development studio primarily focusing on ports onto the Macintosh and then onto Windows. Thanks to an investment from Apple in 1992, Kalisto started creating original games for computers & consoles. From 1993 to 2002, the company grew fast from 20 to 300 people releasing over 20 titles on more than 50 SKUs. It was for over a year part of Mindscape (Pearson Group) in 1995 before becoming independent again. Kalisto released original computer and console games such as Fury of the Furries (published by Mindscape), Pac-in-Time (Namco), Dark Earth (Microprose), Nightmare Creatures (Activision / Sony), Ultimate Race (Microprose), Nightmare Creatures 2 (Konami) on which he was Producer or Executive Producer. The company also had a number of "work-for-hire" developments such as, for example, 5th Element (Activision / Sony / Hudson), Sponge Bob (THQ), Lucky Luke (Infogrames) or Adibou (Vivendi Universal). After going public in 1999, the company was hit hard by the turmoils of the financial markets and it had to shut down mid 2002.
Since 2002, he has been working as a consultant advising such companies as Atari, Codemasters, Groupe Lagardère, Blue Byte and now Ubi Soft primarily on their development strategy, organization and processes.
