George Edward Purdy got his start in the computer game industry with Master of Orion as a character artist after being discovered by long time game developer Jeff Dee. He had been using tools like Shoot Em Up Construction Kit, Adventure Construction Set, Targis, Deluxe Paint, et al. on the Amiga platform to make his own games, as well as working on tabletop RPG designs at home. After Jeff Dee became the art director for startup Simtex Software, George was the first artist he hired, soon to be followed by Jeff's wife, 'Manda Dee. George was the character designer of the sorcerers in Master of Magic, and did numerous additional images in the game. He also did character designs in the ill-fated Mech Lords, and was the lead artist on 1830. He was also the Art Director for Jeff Johannigman's short-lived Excalibur Software. He later worked on several projects at Bull Narum's Go-Go Studios, and Interstate Roadkill for Dracos Software. George has done a variety of other projects, including a comic strip in the Austin American Statesman newspaper, Photoshop color work in comic books, web development, and he has worked as the manager of a computer store, a PC tech, and as a research analyst. George also wrote technical documentation and tutorials for the AMP 3D game engine used in the PC game "Gore" from 4D Rulers, and he has recently designed tabletop gaming dice.
