Steve Gray Executive Producer / Chief Technologist - Musician / Writer / Game Designer

Steve is currently pursuing a number of new ventures in the entertainment industry – focusing on the casual and mid-session internet games space in the US and in Asia. He is also involved with a few selected computer animated film and TV projects.

Steve most recently completed a series of four video games based on The Lord of the Rings for Electronic Arts. For the first two of these games Steve was the Senior Development Director, and the second two the Executive Producer. The games The Two Towers, The Return of the King, The Third Age and Tactics were created for various combinations of the PS2, Xbox, NGC, GBA, PC and PSP platforms and have sold a combined total of over 18 million units. Before joining EA, Steve founded his own game development company Heavy Iron Studios, which he sold to THQ in 1999. Prior to Heavy Iron Studios, he worked for Square Company of Japan, Directing the Parasite Eve game and contributing to Final Fantasy VII – Parasite Eve sold over 2 million units on the PS1; Final Fantasy VII has sold over 9 million units. Steve began his video game career at Electronic Arts in Canada during the PS1 transition, where he ran the Software Tools Group and built the first Motion Capture Lab at EAC.

For the decade preceding his entry into the video game industry, Steve worked as VP Technology, Engineering Manager, Technical Director and Visual Effects Supervisor at a number of visual effects facilities including Robert Abel & Associates, Rhythm & Hues and Digital Domain. At Digital Domain he won a Bronze Lion at the Cannes Advertisers’ Festival for his work as Visual Effect Supervisor on the Budweiser “Ants” TV commercial.

During his career in film and TV VFX, Steve worked on such high-end and award winning projects as the opening title sequence for Speilberg’s Amazing Stories, the Star Trek Deep Space Nine title sequence and the Budweiser “Ants” TV Commercial. His film work includes True Lies, Interview with the Vampire and Apollo 13

A recap of Steve’s video game work includes Parasite Eve, Final Fantasy VII, Army of Darkness, Earth & Beyond, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Return of the King, The Third Age and Tactics. These titles combined have sold nearly 30 million units, on 20 million of those units Steve was either Sr. Development Director or Executive Producer.

For many years Steve was also an active professional musician in Los Angeles. Performing live as well as producing and playing various albums, tv and radio spots. He continues to take an active role in music and sound direction for his projects as well as record music in his home studio.
