Mike Sellers, Chief Alchemist, Online Alchemy. Mike has been designing and developing multiplayer games since 1994. In that year he co-founded Archetype Interactive (later acquired by 3DO) with his brother Steve, and there was President and Lead Designer on Meridian 59, the first 3D massively multiplayer online game (MMOG). In 1997 he co-founded The Big Network (later acquired by eUniverse) and led the design for MyPlace, one of the first family-oriented social networking sites. He has since led designs on SimCity Online, The Sims 2, and Ultima Online 2.0. In 2002 he founded Online Alchemy in Austin, Texas, and is currently working on a next-generation MMOG based on proprietary advanced artificial intelligence software, developed under contract with the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Mike is on the Advisory Board for the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, is a frequent speaker at industry conferences, and has written extensively on MMOG design and production. He has a BS in Cognitive Science, has a professional background in software engineering and user interface design, and has done graduate and industrial work in artificial intelligence.
