Marten was tapped in 1983 to be the first European Sales Manager for Activision under a license arrangement with Computer Games Limited. His career and experience spans the gamut of formats in the entertainment industry beginning with the Atari 2600 through to the present day offerings from Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, PC & Mac Gaming and the On-line Gaming category. Marten was directly involved in determining a suitable business model for Origin's Ultima Online.
Marten founded, co-founded and has held leadership positions in the following companies: Firebird Licensees Inc (President & Founder), Capstone (VP Sales & Marketing), Origin Systems (V.P. Sales), Electronic Arts (National Sales Manager PC), Digital Anvil (President & Co-Founder), Media Excel (V.P. Marketing & Planning), Sapient/Human Code (V.P. Media & Communications), and Apsyr Media Inc. (V.P. Sales).
Marten has seen the industry grow from its roots in the Spectrum and Atari formats, through delivery of entertainment by Tape, Cartridge, Floppy, 3.5"disk, CD, DVD to electronic delivery.
Marten brought the first European #1 selling property on the then Billboard Game Charts to the US; 'Elite' back in 1986 and has been associated with numerous well known and successful properties since. These range from River Raid, Pitfall, Trump Castle, Ultima, Wing Commander, Privateer, System Shock, Crusader, Strike Commander, Ultima Online, Starlancer to Freelancer (launched by Microsoft). His experience also covers the porting and relaunching of many successful game titles to the Mac platform.
Marten was also involved in the creation and launch of one of the first Gaming properties to transfer to the big screen 'Wing Commander'.
Marten resides in Texas with his three sons.
