Biography edit · view history
English-born Rob Hubbard composed the music for more than 75 Commodore 64 games between 1985 and 1989, including Sanxion, Auf Wiedersehen Monty, Battle of Britain, The Human Race, International Karate and Gerry the Germ. During that period he also composed for other platforms, such as the Atari ST, Amstrad and eventually the Amiga.
He never really intended to write music for games. Originally he set out to write music-related educational software for the Commodore 64, but publishers (Gremlin Graphics, to be specific) turned out to like the music better than the education, so to speak, and Rob was asked to compose the soundtrack for the game Thing on a Spring. The game was a hit and Rob Hubbard's career was on a roll.
In 1989 he joined Electronic Arts, initially as a composer, he later became an Audio-Technical Director. He still claims he has not given up composing, but is simply lacking the time to sit down and write. His future plans include writing some music for a symphony orchestra.
In 2016 Hubbard was awarded an honorary doctorate of music from Abertay University in Dundee.
