Master Jang was born in Seoul, South Korea. In 1977, she started Tae Kwon Do at Chung Do Kwan, and received her first degree black belt in 1979. In 1983, she moved to Shin Lim Dong and began her Hapkido training under Master Gak Su Lee. Six years later, she entered the Hapkido program of one of the top martial arts schools in the world, Yong In University. Soon after starting her university training, Master Gak Su Lee suggested that she give I-Jung Kyuk Too Ki (All-Asia Korean Kickboxing) competition a try, and so from 1990 to 1991 Master Jang took a break from her university training and focused on competing. In order to make money to support her competition training, she gave Hapkido lessons to high-school students in Kyoto, Japan. In 1991, she stopped competing and retired with a record of 43 wins out of 45 matches.
After retiring from Kyuk Too Ki competition, Master Jang returned to Young-In University. She graduated first in her class in 1994 with a major in Hapkido, and minors in Tae Kwon Do, Yudo, Haedong Gumdo, Ssirum (Korean wrestling), and boxing.
In 1995, Master Jang came to the US and taught at Hyun’s Hapkido School. She left Hyun’s in 2003, and in 2004 she opened her own school, Jang’s Martial Arts in Chicago Il..
Aside from an impressive track record of 43 wins out of 45 matches in the I-Jung Kyuk Too Ki competitions, Master Jang is also known for her years in the famous Korean Tigers, All-Stars, and Korean Pro-Hapkido demonstration teams.
