Biography edit · view history
Doug published his first game, Ace of Aces, with Al Leonardi while he was still in college getting his bachelor's degree in General Dramatics. From there he went to New York to make his way as an actor, but ended up finding his true calling working as a designer for West End Games. At West End he designed or developed such board and role-playing games as Star Wars: Star Warriors, Arabian Nights, Kings & Things, and Paranoia.
From there he moved to Microprose Software, where he designed or helped design Command HQ, Darklands, Dragonsphere, Colonization and Civilization II. The latter three titles were designed with Brian Reynolds.
Doug then spent three years as Programming Manager for the Games Channel at America Online, learning the do's and don'ts of online gaming; he did freelance design work for Firaxis on Alpha Centauri during that time which led to his coming to Firaxis, where he helped design Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire and Sid Meier's Antietam.
