Matthew Abram "Matt" Groening (pronounced 'gray-ning') was born on February 15, 1954. He is a renowned American cartoonist, screenwriter and producer. He has been most praised for being the 'main brains' behind two successful TV shows; which are The Simpsons and Futurama.
Groening has been nominated for 25 Emmy awards and so far, has won eleven of them: ten for The Simpsons and one for Futurama in the "Outstanding Animated Program (for programming one hour or less)" category.
Groening received the 2002 National Cartoonist Society Reuben Award, and had been nominated for the same award in 2000 and has received a British Comedy Award for "outstanding contribution to comedy" in 2004.
In 2007, he was ranked fourth in a list of the "top 100 living geniuses", making him the highest American Genius on that entire list.
