Paul Woakes
Biography edit · view history
Paul Woakes is a programmer and game designer known for creating several titles in the 1980s and 1990s. One of his earliest games was Encounter!, essentially a souped-up version of Atari's arcade game Battlezone. This was followed by the innovative Mercenary, which was one of the earliest games to offer an open world which could be explored by the player. The planet Targ was simulated using wire frame graphics and featured vehicles, interactive objects and puzzles. Mercenary was followed by an expansion pack, The Second City. The series continued with the release of the Damocles games for the Atari ST and Commodore Amiga computers in the 1990s.
