Postal III

Description official description

Postal III is the sequel to Running With Scissors' over-the-top violent, black humour-filled Postal². Following the nuclear devastation of Paradise in Apocalypse Weekend, The Postal Dude moves to the sister town of Catharsis, AZ. However, he finds himself penniless at the height of the Global Economic Meltdown, having to look for all sorts of oddball jobs, while getting caught amidst the schemes of corrupt politicians, terrorist groups, Segway biker gangs, among others.

The game is set in third-person perspective, which differs from the previous two installments (an isometric shooter, and first-person shooter, respectively). The game reintroduces the series' typical ultraviolence and goofy weapon arsenal. Players can dismember and reduce enemies to piles of blood and carnage with standard firearms such as the shotgun (boomstick), M16 and machine gun (as well as the ability to urinate on people, like in the previous game), or they can slaughter them with exotic weapons such as a badger saw, bee hives, cats, laser-pointed hyperactive lab monkey, etc. This time around, the player is restricted to a mission-based campaign, in the vein of Postal²: Apocalypse Weekend, rather than free roam gameplay. However, the player's actions throughout the game determine the outcome of the scene and ultimately, whether they'll receive the good or bad ending. If the player completes an entire mission using non-lethal force, they are given a story-altering choice to make.

The game introduces a new cover system, where players can take cover behind any given object and shoot safely from behind. Additionally, this marks the first time a vehicle has appeared in a Postal game, the Segway, which the Dude constantly quips about while driving it.

Trivia

Development

Running With Scissors about the game's development:

Q: POSTAL III sucked hard, was it made by RWS?

A: No, it was licensed to a Russian publisher and developer who were supposed produce the game to our design, with a much bigger team and budget than we had for POSTAL 2. Even taking those facts into account, it didn't work out very well. It was a mistake and one we will not repeat.

Store removal

In August 2012, Running With Scissors removed Postal III from their own webstore:

RWS has decided to STOP selling POSTAL III from our store. We believe it’s in the best interest of the Postal Community. We encourage newcomers to try POSTAL FUDGEPACK a far superior product for a lot less money than what P3 is selling for on other sites. We welcome all fans, old and new to continue to support our hard core efforts by purchasing cool RWS merchandise, thanks.
