Of Light and Darkness: The Prophecy

Moby ID: 2820

Description official descriptions

This is an adventure game about the end of the millennium and the fate of the human race.

The object of the game is to collect coloured orbs and artifacts to redeem evil spirits. To accomplish it, you must figure out what sin each spirit is guilty of, which artifact represents it and what colour is it associated with. Then you have to get the correct colour orb or orbs, the correct artifact, enter the correct sin room and do your work. It's not as easy as it may seem.

Sparkling but flawed gem.

The Good
Great visuals! Styled a little like Nine:The last Resort. Good story that was performed by Hollywood talent. Clever dialogue. Good sound and great environment. Challenging play that requires quick reflexes and a very good memory.

The Bad
Play becomes a little redundant early on. The lousy menu robot. Lots of trial and error. Primarily, the disappointment of playing a game with such great potential but less than stellar play. The payoffs are not quite as good as one would hope.

The Bottom Line
A little bit of "Clue", Some FPS action and James Woods. Fun but the boredom and frustration sets in hard before long before the game is completed.

Trivia

Development

The game was originally being developed by a (now defunct) company called Heartland Enterprises in Harrogate, North Yorkshire (UK) but they fell out with Interplay who then pulled the plug and gave it to Tribal Dreams instead. Heartland's version can be seen in the video here (YouTube video link). This video uses Heartland's assets that had already been submitted to Interplay as a promo for the game itself, but by then Heartland was no longer trading since Interplay had stopped paying them.

Manual

The game came with a manual discussing each of the 'evil people' depicted in the game, along with bios and the period they lived in. The older ones anyway are probably just made up.
