Description official descriptions

Crash Team Racing (CTR) is a kart racing game a la Mario Kart, featuring popular characters from the Crash Bandicoot series of games - Crash, Coco, Neo Cortex, N. Gin, Penta Penguin, Polar, Pura, Papu Papu, Komodo Joe, Pinstripe, Tiny, Dingodile, Ripper Roo, Fake Crash and N. Tropy.

The player can race a full storyboard game as any one of the characters, fighting to beat the ultimate (and cheating) racer from another planet, Nitrous Oxide, who wants to turn the Earth into a car park. Each of the main races are against 7 other AI competitors, with 5 "boss" races against a single boss character.

To help you along your way are a whole bunch of weapons, ranging from missiles and rolling bombs to booby-trapped TNT crates and the leader-seeking orb.

There are also a few arcade modes, sub-games and battle games against up to 4 other players.

This game is more than Mario Kart 64.

The Good
The gameplay is outstanding so you can pass countless hours of gameplay not only on cup mode similar to Grand Prix in Mario Kart 64, but also in the adventure mode that Mario Kart 64 didn't include it but Diddy Kong Racing include it, adds it the entertaining side to the game and this is the reason because I love this game.

This is not the beginning, also the multiplayer mode is outstanding too so you can do it great with your friends not only in the versus race, also the battle mode is pretty good too because has not only free-for-all battle, also you can play a 2 on 2 team battle or a handicap battle too, thing that Mario Kart 64 didn't include it and this is the other reason because I love this game.

The Bad
It was good for me if the graphics and character textures was similar to Mario Kart 64, this is the bad side reason.

The Bottom Line
If you're looking for a good PlayStation racing game for a high dose of fun and racing action, this game is your best choice, it has not only Mario Kart 64, also has something of Diddy Kong Racing.

Crash Bandicoot challenges Mario.

The Good
I loved that they have used environments and characters from previous Crash Bandicoot games. For the first time in the Crash series you can choose to be any character that you want. Beautiful scenery with a good attention to details. Thumbs up for Naughty Dog.

The Bad
When you have played through this game a couple of times, you will see that the game is not so different from Mario Kart. The developers could have tried to be more imaginative. The stages were very much alike the stages in Mario Kart.(For example Cortex' Castle and Bowser's Castle) I also missed more game modes, but I suppose that it wasn't possible on the Playstation 1.

The Bottom Line
If you have played Mario Kart, but don't own a Nintendo, then try out this game.

Trivia

Legacy

Crash Team Racing is the last game in the Crash Bandicoot series developed by Naughty Dog. Other companies took over afterwards.

Multiplayer

Each of the tracks are actually included as both high polygon count and lower polygon count models. The high polygon count tracks with maximum detail are used when playing in full screen single player mode, and the lower polygon tracks are used in the split screen multiplayer modes. This was done to get better performance when the game has to render up to 4 screens at the same time. The lower polygon count isn't as noticeable because it's rendered inside smaller view ports.

Other Appearances

The game makes a short appearance on the episode The One With Monica's Thunder from the TV show Friends, in which the character Joey (Matt LeBlanc) enters the living room of his apartment and sees Chandler (Matthew Perry) playing CTR as Crash on the track Hot Air Skyway.
