Footy Fanatic (DOS)

THE best Shareware/Freeware football management game ever!

The Good
Everything. Lots of options, very user friendly. The results play to your strategies, and you can even create your own scenarios and take your Sunday team to the European Championship. The players are real, the stadiums are changeable, and you can even choose what to practice. Very good.

The Bad
There are no graphics, and you can only play 35 seasons (but you retire after that, so it's still realistic). Other than that, Championship Manager style.

The Bottom Line
Download this game NOW. This is the most underrated football sim in the world.

Madden NFL 97 (DOS)

A good game, better than several other Maddens later than it for sure.

The Good
The gameplay. The gameplay was simple and enabled you to score points... with your custom team. The custom team and league editor let you take your team to the Super Bowl against other teams... Other teams were rendered realistically.

The Bad
The graphics: players and stadiums are all clones.

The Bottom Line
If it's freeware, download it.

FIFA: Road to World Cup 98 (Windows)

FIFA 98 is THE best FIFA game out there.

The Good
Everything except the graphics. The graphics are not as good as the versions ahead of it, but the music (Blur, Crystal Method) is superb, you qualify for the world cup, there is league play, and every int'l team in the world is available for play. Much better than 99 or even 2000.

The Bad
The graphics.

The Bottom Line
Go out and buy/download it today. Awesome game. Especially for Crystal Palace fans :-)

FIFA 2000: Major League Soccer (Windows)

FIFA 98 was better than this.

The Good
The graphics were improved, but I couldn't see how this compared to FIFA 99 much less FIFA 98.

The Bad
Relegation seemed fake, announcers blew, songs blew, and the gameplay blew. Stadiums weren't even real, and American announcers announced English Premiership games.

The Bottom Line
A good game if you like American English football.
