Ghislain Barbe's activities range from animation to traditional illustration and multimedia. He's worked in the paper-bound publishing industry for 7 years for Montreal-based role-playing book publisher Dream Pod 9. As graphic designer, he has created for them the visual universe of properties such as Tribe 8, Jovian Chronicles and mainly Heavy Gear, which became 2 Activision PC games: Heavy Gear: The New Breed and Heavy Gear II, and a Mainframe CG animated series for Sony Family Picture Entertainment. Responsible of the design of the environments of Loto-Quebec's interactive lottery “Les trésors de la tour” I & II, he has also developed the designs of the characters and did some storyboarding for the animated TV series Sagwa The Chinese Siamese Cat, based on the works of Amy Tan and produced by Cinegroupe in association with Children's Television Workshop and IF/X Productions for PBS Kids. He worked as characters designer on other Cinegroupe products like the animated feature Lion of Oz and the Badge of Courage and the animated TV series Pig City. He also collaborated with Cinegroupe Interactive and Sarbakan for which he developed the online interactive series Total Panic. Since 2002, he is Senior Conceptual Artist at Artificial Mind & Movement (A2M) for which he designed the visuals of the multi-platform game “Carmen Sandiego & the Secret of the Stolen Drums”. He was previously senior artist at Digital Concept (DC) Studios Canadian office. Freelance illustrator and designer, and formerly video technician, Ghislain has a Master Degree in Film Studies from Laval University, and a Degree in Graphic Design concomitant to a general Degree in Film Studies, History and Sociology.
