Bill Appleton is a programmer with a long history in the games industry. He originally worked on his own, making Macintosh games such as Creepy Castle (1991) and tools such as the point-and-click adventure game creation system World Builder (1986).

In 1993 Appleton founded Cyberflix, based in Knoxville (USA) and active until 1999. Known for its interactive movies, the studio relied almost entirely on the DreamFactory technology he designed to power its games. Appleton announced he would leave the company in November 1998.
