Auch diesmal ist die Handlung des Spiels während des Golf-Konflikts im Jahre 1991 angesiedelt. Der Spieler übernimmt die Kontrolle über eine kleine Spezialeinheit, 300 Kilometer hinter den feindlichen irakischen Linien. Mit diesem Team muss er verschiedene riskante Missionen erfüllen, um die alliierten Truppen zu unterstützen.

Alle vier Mitglieder der Spezialeinheit haben unterschiedliche Fähigkeiten, die wichtig für die erfolgreiche Erfüllung der Missionen sind. So gibt es einen Teamleiter, einen Techniker, einen Scharfschützen und einen Spezialisten für schwere Waffen. Unter widrigen Bedingungen wie brütender Hitze, Verfolgung durch feindliche Truppen und häufigem Beschuss durch schwere Artillerie muss der Spieler alle Mitglieder seiner Einheit am Leben erhalten.

Die Aufgaben sind beispielsweise feindliche Waffensysteme wie Scud-Raketen, chemische Kampfstoffe und schwere Geschütze zu vernichten oder verschanzte Einheiten der Republikanischen Garde aus ihren Stellungen in Kuwait City zu vertreiben. In der finalen Mission schließlich müssen die alliierten Truppen bei der Befreiung von Kuwait City unterstützt und eine ökologische Katastrophe inmitten der brennenden kuwaitischen Ölfelder verhindert werden.

As you step into the shoes of an elite Special Forces team, the last thing on your mind will be UN approval.

Let's get one thing straight. Despite the "Back to Baghdad" name, your mission does not take place in present day, but instead begins during the height of the Gulf War in 1991 (David Kay can breath a sigh of relief). The relevance of the story and setting make it easy to dig right into your role as an elite military team.

You'll face urban firefights, desert raids and vehicular combat. Your authentic weaponry includes sniper rifles, machine guns and anti-tank rockets. But the key to success isn't firepower but the deliberate use of teamwork.

You are introduced to the complex control scheme in an extensive boot-camp tutorial. You'll be able to switch control of soldiers, issue commands, reload weapons, make evasive maneuvers and more. However, poorly implemented stealth tactics make direct combat a more viable option in most situations.

When not controlled by you, team members will do a surprising amount on their own. They will target and shoot enemies, take cover and communicate their status. Clever enemy teamwork makes for fun and challenging opponents.

The tiered missions take your team through an entire operation from start to finish. One early mission challenges you to search a helicopter crash site for survivors. You must infiltrate an enemy camp, travel by jeep to a walled city, destroy a placement of anti-aircraft guns and suppress enemy resistance before reaching the survivors.

Perhaps the most exciting feature is the ability to play cooperatively with as many as four players via a split screen. There's nothing quite like working as a unit with your buddies.

For military combat that excels with single or multiple players look no further. The controls are complex yet manageable and the graphics and sound are convincing.
