If you're new to the Resident Evil series, you've picked the perfect time to dive in. The original Resident Evil has been re-invented exclusively for Nintendo GameCube, with updated graphics and game play guaranteed to get your pulse pumping. If you've survived the horror before, you'll appreciate the addition of new areas to explore and other surprises.

Here's what Capcom's director of marketing, Todd Thorson, had to say about this project, "Mikami's [Shinji Mikami is the creator of Resident Evil] goal in developing Resident Evil for [Nintendo] GameCube was to achieve the visuals at the same level as movies, and create more suspense and fear than the original ... So many details have been added to this version that fans new and old will be amazed."

Resident Evil is a 3D adventure game in which players explore a large mansion infested with zombies and other mutated creatures. Players move through photorealistic pre-rendered environments. Each time you enter a new room, a new background is loaded. Your character and enemy creatures can move freely anywhere within each room.

On the most basic level, your goal in the game is simply to survive. With flesh-hungry zombies, mutant dogs, and other nasty beasts lurking around every corner, this is no easy task. Despite the presence of weapons like bazookas, shotguns, pistols and knives, this is no button-mashing shooter. You'll never survive if you try to waste every zombie, because you'll quickly run out of ammunition. You'll find yourself running past zombies just as often as you try to shoot them.

You'll also have to use your brain to solve puzzles and progress in the game. The deliberate pace of Resident Evil is what makes it one of the most suspensful and eerily disturbing games in existence.

Supporting the unsettling gameplay is a solid storyline which teeters on the edge of cheese but thankfully never tips over. A secluded mansion in Raccoon City has long been the center of top-secret biotech experiments funded by an enigmatic corporation known only as Umbrella.

When nearby towns begin to experience bizarre and bloody attacks, people start to get nervous. When the scientists working at the mansion stop communicating with the outside world, two Special Tactics and Rescue Squads (S.T.A.R.S.) are sent in to investigate. One team is completely wiped out by a pack of monstrous creatures, and the other is chased into the mansion.

This is where the game begins. Players can choose between two characters to control: Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine. Chris is a sharp-shooting pilot, and Jill is a tough demolitions expert. The game varies slightly depending on which character you choose to play, so you'll definitely want to play through the adventure twice.

In 1998 a special forces team is sent to investigate some bizarre murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City. Upon arriving they are attacked by a pack of blood-thirsty dogs and are forced to take cover in a nearby mansion. But the scent of death hangs heavy in the air. Supplies are scarce as they struggle to stay alive.

* More detailed graphics that retain the horror. * The environments come alive with detail thanks to resolution upgrades and non-static 3D models. * Post-processing effects like Bloom filters, which were not easy to do at the time of the original release, have been added to make the HD graphics even more realistic. * High-Resolution Environments - We've increased the resolution of the background environments by recreating them with a mix of high-res static images, plus animated 3D models.

Widescreen Support
* Widescreen (16:9) is supported, so players can experience a greater sense of immersion. * In widescreen mode, the screen will scroll.
