Reign of Fire

aka: El Imperio del Fuego, Il Regno del Fuoco, Le Règne du Feu, Reign of Fire: Die Herrschaft des Feuers, Reign of Fire: Let the Battle Ignite
Moby ID: 14594

The year is 2024 and a race of fire-spewing dragons are top of the food chain. The remaining humans have banded together in an effort to kick some reptilian butt (imagine the size of the suitcases they could make) and take back the char-grilled planet. Reign of Fire on PS2 is based upon the blockbuster movie starring Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale, and follows the action as man and myth clash head on in a genocidal fight for their very survival. A third-person 3D shoot-em-up that casts you as a desperate human resistance fighter with hi-tech combat vehicles at your disposal, or allows you to take to the skies as an awe-inspiring dragon bent on barbecuing your way through the puny humans and their ineffectual arsenal.

Playing as the last hope for mankind, your mission is to combat the scaly menace at every turn, with the ultimate aim of destroying the lone bull dragon in his roost in the ruins of London. You can call upon all the military ordnance available to help you overcome the winged threat, including armed quad bikes, pick-ups, tanks and fire engines. Then take the battle to the air and fight the dragons on their own turf in attack helicopters and Harrier jump jets.

If you think you'll look better in scales, take control of an infant dragon as it grows across the many levels into a fully-grown, flying napalm factory. Your instincts tell you to destroy the parasitical humans and who are we to argue? Using reactive fire-effects - that mean flames spread believably - it's your job to torch the resistance while avoiding those pesky bullets, rockets and missiles. Detailed skeletal animation means that whatever you do, be it dive, climb, swoop or back pedal, you'll look damn good doing it. In addition to your own growing dragon, there are eight other breeds to support you in your fight against man. These include the huge, ground based 'Land Tanks', the swarming, agile 'Spitfires' and of course the most ferocious of the all, the Bull Dragon.

The combination of mechanised warfare and fantasy creatures makes this game (and the film) an original and exciting prospect. Whether you choose to battle to save mankind as the hi-tech resistance or choose to help us into oblivion as the terrifying dragons, you can expect fast, furious and flammable action. Reign of Fire is quite simply the 'hottest' game around.

  • Save the planet as the human resistance or torch the planet as the destructive dragons - effectively two games in one

  • Numerous action packed missions including stealthy reconnaissance, heroic fire-fighting and explosive dog-fights

  • Based on the hot movie starring Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale

BAM! Entertainment Press Release

It is present-day London when a construction crew, led by the mother of young Quinn Abercromby, unwittingly unleashes a dragon that's been hibernating for centuries. Within a quarter of a century, dragons have multiplied and replaced humans as the dominant species on Earth. The game's story picks back up in Britain, c.2024. Quinn has grown up to be a "resistance fighter" for a small community hiding in an old castle in the burnt-out English countryside. His people have been reduced to living in near-medieval conditions. There's a pair of dragons prowling the vicinity, attacking the few remaining villages, destroying crops, and generally making life hell for the humans. The fire brigades risk their lives to put out the awful firestorms caused by the dragon attacks as they rescue the trapped or wounded survivors… Reign of Fire is a scorching third person action adventure based on the scorching movie. You can play as a human and defend the last remaining people or take the role of an infant dragon, led by instinct to attack its foe, and attempt to eradicate the human race. In effect two games in one. Let the battle ignite!
