Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005

Moby ID: 15403

Summary

Tiger prowls back onto PS2 for his annual golfing foray, with extended customisation features, enhanced AI, and more choice and flexibility than ever before.

If you thought that last year's EA offering seemed about as fully comprehensive as a golfing game could get, get ready to think again. In a first for European club wavers, PGA Tour 2005 makes the leap to fully-enabled online play.

Practice your swing and take on pals with head-to-head online tournaments complete with money lists, full stat tracking and league leaders. Post your scores on ea.com and keep an eye on the leader board for top player entries.

Details

In EA's most detailed golf sim yet, you'll manage every aspect of the game, right down to the blades of grass you take your swing on. The brand spanking new 'Tiger Proofing' feature allows you to alter any course, right down to positioning flags and changing the depth of bunkers, and then challenge your friends and the AI opponents to beat you on your own devious creation.

As well as creating a landscaped masterpiece, you'll also be able to mould a player in your own (or anyone else's, for that matter) image. The amount of depth here is mind-boggling; with the ability to define jaw lines, brow bones, eye set, colour and even pigment on the face alone, this is one feature you'll have trouble dragging yourself away from.

And all that before you've even taken a swing. Despite the extraordinary levels of detail EA has lavished on the personalisation options, you'll be pleased to hear that it hasn't scrimped on gameplay enhancements either.

Take a more precise shot with the new putting and chipping systems, for even more control on the green, and have total freedom of movement when deciding where to place your ball. Just try to stay away from those water hazards, ok?

Features

  • Amazingly detailed 'GameFace II' player customisation lets you create the ultimate golfer

  • Go head-to-head with friends online and compete in tournaments to earn a place on EA's leader board

  • Create and maintain your own dream 18, with extensive 'Tiger Proofing' modification options

  • Take on golfing greats, including Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, in the new Legends Tour mode

18 Holes against the Master

Challenge the man who changed golf forever - and top rivals from the PGA tour.

While some golf games take their sweet time to reach the green, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 smacks a hole in one.

Features * Tiger-Proof courses (course design alteration) * 10-season career mode * Play against 15 PGA Tour pros, 14 fantasy characters and golfing legends

Tiger Woods may not be winning tournaments left and right anymore, but the video game that shares his name is in the lead and pulling away from the competition. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 is as deep as the rough at St. Andrews and as hard to put down as a 60-foot putt.

Legends of Golf

The masters of golf wait to challenge you, but you must first prove yourself. Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Seve Ballesteros, Arnold Palmer and Ben Hogan make an appearance in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 in the Legend Tour. In order to battle one of these legends, you must win six matches against golfers from the PGA Tour and minds of EA designers. Once you defeat all six, the master will teach you a lesson. Defeat all the Legends and face the legend in the making: Sunday Tiger Woods. Once you defeat any of the non-PGA Tour pros, they become unlocked and playable in any of the game modes. Outside the match play feature, you can play Legend Scenarios. Each of the five legends put you through six course challenges. Sometimes you'll battle the legend, other times you battle the course. Mostly, you battle yourself. Certain scores will give you a gold, silver or bronze medal. Make sure your golfer is maxed out on his or her abilities before you decide to take on the Golden Bear, Jack Nicklaus, on St. Andrews' back nine.

Put on Your Game Face

Game Face II lets you mold the digital clay that is your golfer into a mean, lean swingin' machine. Customize every aspect of your golfer, from the wrinkles and crow's feet to upper- and lower-body attributes. You even get to create your golfer's swing. All for free! The rest of the golfer upgrades you have to pay for, though. With a little prize money in your pocket, you'll get a chance to enhance your golfer's abilities, such as spin control and shot power. Hundreds of clothing items await you in the pro shop fitting room. Goofy pants? There's a whole clearance-rack of them. Other items you can buy include jewelry, socks, sunglasses, balls, shafts and clubs. Have too much money to spend? Buy different negative reactions and positive celebrations. Shake your groove thing after a great putt.

You earn money to spend at the pro shop and on your attributes by playing any game in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005. You don't have to win tourneys or matches to pocket some green (but it sure helps). If you hit a green in regulation, you get money. Birdies and eagles also win you money. If you play in a higher difficulty mode (which is something you have to unlock), you earn substantially more money for your on-course play.

Tiger Proofing and the Dream 18

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 introduces a course-design element with Tiger Proofing. You can tinker with the elements of a hole and set it to a desired difficulty. You can Tiger Proof any of the 14 courses, but you have to buy these courses first. As you play, you earn Legend Coins. Spend the Legend Coins to purchase a course. Once you purchase a course, you can go in and edit a hole. You're allowed to change the slope and size of the green, the width and upkeep of the fairway and the thickness of rough, among other things. After Tiger Proofing, create your own Dream 18, an 18-hole course featuring any of the holes that you've Tiger Proofed. A Dream 18 is judged on a Prestige scale. If the Prestige scores high enough, one of the legends, including Sunday Tiger, will challenge you to your own creation. You made the hole, you should have the advantage, right? If you tinker with the course and the Prestige rating drops, the legends won't give you the time of day, let alone an autograph.

Bottom Line

And all this only scratches the surface of the depth of this game. Throw in commentary from two of golf's more personable characters, David Feherty and Gary McCord, and you have the all-around great golf package.

Tiger Woods 2005 updated with fullscreen switch, more

Aspyr Media on Monday announced the release of a 1.1 Rev A update for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005, the EA Sports-made golf game for the Macintosh. It measures 3.7MB.

While the update does not deliver a Universal binary, it does offer important fixes that Aspyr recommends for all players of the game, including fixing a launch failure with Panther, the ability to switch in and out of the game using fullscreen mode through command-Tab and Command-H keystrokes, and changes to the course installer.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 lets you play as the great Tiger Woods and other real-world PGA golf pros, as well as your own custom-designed player. You can play some of the world’s best-known courses and imaginary ones as well, and customize courses by expanding the green, narrowing the fairway, increasing the sandtraps and much more.
