Get that Snitch!

Chaser, Beater, Keeper, Seeker: What's your passion?

The magical sport of Quidditch makes for an exciting and challenging game involving two teams that fly on broomsticks, four balls in simultaneous play (one Quaffle, two Bludgers, and the elusive Golden Snitch) and a unique scoring system.

Features * Based upon the Witches' Sport from J.K. Rowling's best-selling novels * Control all positions * Beautiful 3D modeled characters and arenas * Collect Quidditch Cards and trade them with a friend's Harry Potter: Quidditch Cup for the Game Boy Advance* Build up your Golden Snitch Bar to execute special moves, such as boosting, dodging, Bludger moves and special moves

A good-looking, fast-paced sports game, Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup offers a very different experience from that found in the other Harry Potter games. Quick reactions and the ability think on the fly are must.

Players can pass and score with Chasers, defend with Beaters and try to capture the elusive Snitch with the Seeker. Players can choose any one of the four Hogwarts House teams (including Harry Potter's Gryffindor and Draco Malfoy's Slytherin) and battle for the Hogwarts Cup, then move on to the Quidditch World Cup.

Winning the Hogwarts Quidditch Cup is easy, but the World Cup competition suddenly becomes very difficult. Teams represent the United States, Bulgaria, the Nordics, England, Japan, France, Germany and Australia. Sporting their own uniforms and unique stadiums, each nation has different strengths and tactics that lend strategy and depth as players progress through a ladder system. EA doesn't bother to offer team ratings, but don't be surprised if high-flying teams cream you on your first tries against international competition.

Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup offers both single player and a first-ever Harry Potter multiplayer competition in which players compete head-to-head. There's also two-player cooperative play.

Mastering the complex rules takes some practice. After all, how many games have three balls? Unlike traditional sports sims, though, there's no roster management, play selection or setting of formations; instead, you're thrown headfirst into the heat of competition.

Bottom Line

A handsome sports game like no other, Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup delivers frantic high-flying fun. But the absence of strategy elements limits the game's single-player appeal. Two-player action is great, but support for four players would have been twice as good.

The fictional game of broomsticks and Bludgers comes to PS2, courtesy of Electronic Arts. Can you be first to the Golden Snitch?

As Harry Potter's favourite sport, Quidditch features prominently in the wizard schoolboy's adventures - and now you can play it too.

As the game progresses, you'll be able to enter the Quidditch World Cup, playing as one of nine international teams. Before that, though, you'll need to learn the ropes at Hogwarts, playing as one of the four house teams. In something of a first for a Harry Potter game, you don't have to be Harry if you don't want to. As well as Harry's team (Gryffindor), Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff are all available for play. Each team is made up of recognisable characters from the books and films, such as Harry's nemesis, Draco Malfoy, who plays in the Slytherin team (boo!).

The world of Quidditch is brought to life with a variety of massive stadiums that bring home the grandeur of the sport. Each international team has a home stadium, meaning you'll get to play Quidditch in locations ranging from the glorious Australian outback to the Gothic splendour of Bulgaria's stadium.

You can also use a variety of special moves that allow you to retain control of the Quaffle, dodge nasty tackles, and execute outrageous team manoeuvres that let you score in style. When the time is right, reach for the Golden Snitch to end the match and score a whopping 150 points!

  • For the first time, take part in all aspects of a Quidditch match
  • Play as a variety of teams, including Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw
  • Play two-player matches to determine who's best on the broomsticks
  • Progress from Hogwarts and win the Quidditch World Cup as one of nine international teams
  • Unlock a variety of special moves to flummox the opposing team
