Rodney shows he's more than just a hunk of metal in Robots.

The March 2005 animated movie about a plucky robot leading a rebellion and saving his inventor-hero shows its mettle on the Game Boy Advance.

Features * Play as characters from the movie * Collect items and blueprints to build weapons * Three save slots

Experience the adventures of a genius inventor robot named Rodney Copperbottom as he moves to the big city to work for the company founded by his childhood hero. Rodney, however, uncovers a villain's plot to take over the city and must foil it for the sake of robots everywhere.

In this three-quarters-view platformer, you play as Rodney as he takes a trip to the big city to show his inventions to Bigweld Industries. Once there, his dreams are dashed and he discovers a wicked plot that also involves the disappearance of Mr. Bigweld.

You play as both Rodney and his sidekick Wonderbot. The two find themselves in many strange areas and need to work together to get through each stage. Sometimes, Wonderbot will need to flip a switch while Rodney is standing on a lift.

To switch between characters, you press the R button and then use Wonderbot to activate the switch. You'll also use Wonderbot to grab hard-to-reach items and more. Rodney and Wonderbot collect items to complete tasks and build inventions. Rodney carries around his trusty wrench to smack enemies, but once he has all the pieces of his inventions together, he can upgrade to a less-clunky fighting tool.

Bottom Line

Robots delivers some nice graphics, but the gameplay sometimes feels like it needs a few squirts of oil to move more smoothly.

Although it's far too early to pass judgment on this game, there's no doubt that Robots showcases the DS's great graphics and lighting effects. The level we saw had very realistically textured metal-plates.
