Combat Mission: Afghanistan

Moby ID: 179728

Combat Mission Afghanistan brings the rarely covered Soviet-Afghan War to Combat Mission. The game focuses on the initial period (1980-1982) and the highest point of activity (1985-1987) before the war wound down to its end in 1989. This split view of the war is almost two games within one as the equipment, formations, and tactics are quite different between the two periods. An interesting topic which also makes for an interesting tactical wargame. IMPORTANT: this game was released as a joint venture with a Russian developer and is no longer in active development. The game is based on the original Shock Force game engine and is not upgradable.

Highlights

Combat Mission Afghanistan explores the rough terrain and fighting that occupied much of the Soviet Union's energies during its final days. Soviet, Democratic Republic of Afghanistan (DRA), and Mujahideen forces are accurately portrayed in detail. You experience the war through two campaigns and 15 stand alone battles, as well as quick battles. The first campaign portrays the fight through the experiences of the 108th Motor Rifle Division, located in Kabul and Bagram. The second campaign follows the activities of the 70th Motor Rifle Brigade, located in Kandahar.
