Mechanized Assault & Exploration(tm), it's strategic warfare to the MAX!

Irvine, Calif., December 30, 1996 -- Interplay announced today the release of M.A.X.: Mechanized Assault & Exploration(TM), the only simultaneous turn-based strategy wargame that combines fully-customizable vehicles with "top-down" SVGA graphics, diverse campaigns and multi-player action. Developed by Interplay, M.A.X. provides the fast play of a real-time game and the depth and variety of a turn-based game to provide a truly addictive and engrossing gaming experience.

"In designing M.A.X., we attempted to create a game that would challenge gamers of all levels while providing game options to satisfy both the real-time and turn-based game enthusiasts," stated Ali Atabek, game producer.

In M.A.X. a customizable "turn timer" and "simultaneous play" have been implemented to blend the fast play of a real-time game with the depth and variety of a turn-based game to provide a truly unique strategy gaming experience. M.A.X. provides the gamer with endless "replayability" and features twenty-four different worlds on which to play, the choice of eight different clans (each with its own advanced artificial intelligence), and a full array of customizable options including tactical units and vehicles, battlefields, scenarios and campaigns.

Additionally, M.A.X. provides the player with a variety of training missions and a user-friendly interface with pop-up menus detailing individual unit functions and abilities, allowing players of all skill levels to plunge into the fast-paced action. The addicting gameplay of M.A.X. is further enhanced by superior top-down SVGA graphics, 3-D rendered models, Dolby surround-sound movies and over 400 16-bit stereo sound effects. M.A.X. supports both solitaire and multi-player game variations. Solitaire players can play up to three computer opponents and up to four players can battle it out over the network, while two players can go head-to-head via the modem.

M.A.X. was developed and produced by Interplay's Ali Atabek. Mr. Atabek's other production credits at Interplay include Virtual Pool(TM) and Cyberia(TM).

Available on CD-ROM, M.A.X. will run on any 486-66 or faster with DOS 5.0 or later and at least 8Mb RAM (16Mb and a Pentium 60 if running under Windows 95(R). A double-speed CD-ROM drive, a Microsoft(R) compatible mouse and a Sound Blaster(R) compliant sound card are required.

Interplay's Fargo Offers Computer Game To Pentagon For 21st Century War Plans

"A Bridge to the 21st Century" CEO States--Notes Federal Budget Cuts

Irvine, California, January 6, 1996 -- Interplay Productions' CEO Brian Fargo announced today that he will offer military strategists in the Pentagon free copies of its just released strategic warfare game M.A.X: Mechanized Assault & Exploration in order to help off-set budget cutbacks and to make a "Bridge to the 21st Century".

"I am responding to President Clinton's call to bridge to the 21st century and in light of projected budget reductions, I feel it is my duty as an American citizen to do all that I can to help my country and by providing copies of M.A.X. to the Pentagon, I feel we are doing our part," said Fargo. "Another interesting and yet possibly ominous event into the 21st Century mix is NASA's discovery of possible life forms on Mars. If we are to be ready to deal with all threats, both terrestrial and extraterrestrial, the Pentagon's long-range planning must have access to every resource without the restrictions of budget."

Interplay plans to make a formal offer of aid to the Pentagon but in the meantime, members of the Pentagon's Extraterrestrial War Planning group are invited to contact the company in writing, and with proper credentials, to receive a free copy of the game. M.A.X carries an estimated street price of $49.95 and is available for IBM and 100% compatible computers at software outlets worldwide.

Fargo continued, "The producer of M.A.X Ali Atabek recently became an American citizen and felt a strong sense of patriotism attached to his work and wanted to offer copies of the game to the military in gratitude to his adopted country."

"Hey we've seen Independence Day, MARS Attacks and The "X" Files, we didn't just fall of the turnip truck," said Atabek. "If aliens are out there, then we should be ready to blow them away."

About This Game

Your mission: colonize new worlds on distant planets. As the Mission Commander, you and the Mechanized Assault & Exploration (M.A.X.) force under your command are the first ones in. Mining stations, power plants, tactical combat vehicle factories, habitats – it's up to you to plan and construct them.

The entire new colony? You create it. The resources you find there? Control them. Enemies? Crush 'em! And there will be enemies. You're not the only Mission Commander trying to colonize the planets. You'll have to push yourself to the limit to survive the ultimate showdown in strategic warfare. It's espionage, heavy artillery, offensives, counter offensives and intelligence – all with maximum consequences.

At its core, M.A.X. is about resource-gathering, building, and tactical combat. The game offers more than 50 land, sea, and air units, most of which can be upgraded to improve their armor, speed, and range. You can play as one of eight different factions with different advantages for each one.

  • A level of complexity unseen in contemporary strategy games
  • Choose either simultaneous or turn-based game mode to fit your personal preference
  • Play as one of 8 human clans and use dozens upon dozens of land, sea and air units
