The Primagen, imprisoned at the core of the Lost Land, has summoned a massive army of savage creatures to destroy the energy totems that hold him captive. Turok must now end the devastation he has set in motion.

Press Release - Windows

The man responsible for the endangered species list is back, so cold-blooded creatures beware. The graphics are better, the guns are bigger, and the guts are more grotesque than ever before.

The story of Turok 2 picks up where the original game left off. After defeating Campaigner, Turok threw the Chronosceptor into a volcano. In doing so, he unwittingly awakened an even bigger evil: Primagen, who lies imprisoned in a Lightship. (Moral: Think twice before you chuck your Chronosceptor!) Turok must now protect the 6 energy totems which seal Primagen's cell, and struggle to find the scattered pieces of the key to his Lightship. These tasks will take place in six artistic levels, each with its own unique geometry and texture mapping.

In addition to the six Quest Levels, there are five multi-player levels, which cover 30 virtual square miles. Some areas are well-lit, while others are draped in dark shadows. Luckily, Turok is provided with a flare gun to serve as a portable night light. The gun shoots glowing green flares which stick to walls, and burn for about 20 seconds.

Graphical improvements abound in Turok 2, thanks in large part to support for the Expansion Pak accessory. While the original Turok deployed fog to mask large areas, Turok 2 uses it sparingly to give a sinister mood to the action. Advanced real-time light sourcing results in eye candy for the adventurer, with flickering torches, shimmering water, and dark halls illuminated by the glow of exploding ammo.

The enemies in Turok 2 are smarter, meaner, and more advanced than those from the first game. Over 30 different types of enemies and untold numbers of bosses roam the land, armed with the best artificial intelligence Iguana has to offer. You'll have to be quick on your feet to cope with the many different attacking styles you'll encounter. For example, certain baddies will act like snipers, while low-life beetles will be able to swarm you in seconds.

The enemies have cone vision and sound sensitivity like real predators. This gives you the opportunity to sneak up on them, but you have to be stealthy. If you step into their field of vision or make too much noise, be prepared to pull out your Scorpion Missle. Aim with care, because the enemies have accurate collision detection, and flinch realistically depending on where they are hit.

While classic weapons like the Tek Bow return for the sequel, several innovative tools of destruction have been added to Turok's arsenal, including the War Blade, Storm Bow, and Firestorm Cannon. Some weapons, such as the underwater Spear Gun, can only be used in certain environments. Turok is equipped with a Sniper Eyepiece, which flips down to allow the hunter to pick off enemies lurking in the distance.

The one player game provides hordes of enemies to destroy, but it will also require you to do more than exercise your trigger finger. There are many puzzles to ponder, and you will have to back track at certain points in the game in order to progress. A skilled dinosaur hunter has to use his brain with the same precision as his shotgun.

The most anticipated feature may be the addition of three multi-player modes. You will be able to choose from seven characters to control, including heroic Joshua Fireseed, the wicked Flesh Eater, and even a dreaded velociraptor. Bloodlust is a straightforward deathmatch melee that should please GoldenEye 007 fans around the world. In the innovative Frag Tag mode, one player is "It." If It somehow staggers to a checkpoint without being whacked, a new player will become It and the match will continue. Sound simple? There's a catch: The player labeled It is unarmed, has a target on his back, is animated in sheer terror, and squeals like a frightened pig throughout the game. This Frag Tag beats the old schoolyard tag by a mile!

Like the original, Turok 2 is ahead of the competition. The single player mode holds many challenges, and the addition of a multiplayer mode gives Turok 2 the replay value that the first game lacked.
