Press release (23rd February 2006)

Kickin' asphaltFIFA Street 2 builds on the arcade game experience of the 2005's FIFA Street by putting greater emphasis on skills battles, a larger selection of tricks and a new way to win with a Gamebreaker.Features* 10 new venues * New features include ball juggling and multiplayer combos * Global soundtrack with DJ-hosted radio stations

Soccer breaks free of the confines of grassy fields and finds refuge in the asphalt jungles, back alleys and dirt streets around the world. The world's best players battle it out in 4-on-4 competitions where style is king and red cards are scarce. The new venues in FIFA Street 2 aren't cookie-cutter stadiums with different backgrounds. The dimensions of the playing fields vary. Some reflect a standard playing field while others are more narrow, like you're playing in an alley. The size of the goals will also vary depending on the venue you play in.Getting a Gamebreaker to go off is the name of the game. As you perform combos with your Trick Stick, you fill up the Gamebreaker meter. When the meter is full, you can unleash a shot that produces an automatic goal. This year's game adds depth to the Gamebreaker system. If you want to shoot right away after you activate the Gamebreaker, you get an automatic goal. However, you can risk trying to beat three opponents with tricks. Each time you school an opposing player, you add additional goal value to your Gamebreaker shot. And if you can beat all three players before your Gamebreaker time runs out, your shot will automatically win you the game, regardless of score.Almost every venue gives off a gritty vibe of playing in the elements, and EA goes out of its way to emphasize how the playing field and its boundaries are pieced together with whatever's in the neighborhood. That car would make a good fence....FIFA Street 2 features a full level of customization from player creation to outfitting that player with licensed gear. In addition to playing quick matches, players can start from the ground up and try to take the street in the game's story mode. New to this year's version, gamers can pick a soccer superstar and show off some trick skills. Using the C Stick, you'll perform combos to rack up the points before time runs out.The game's biggest issue is that it feels more like a skills exhibition than an actual soccer match. A majority of the emphasis is put on performing tricks in the game to build up that Gamebreaker meter rather than actually scoring. When there are only four guys playing on each side and one gets incapacitated by being schooled by a trick, you would think there would be a lot more scoring. Instead, the goalies are all world and the action is slow and methodical in its pace. But, if you believe the EA promotional video, looking cool (or making your opponent look the fool) is more important that scoring goals in street soccer.Bottom LineThis game is all about the tricks. In a sense, that makes it feel more like you're playing an extreme sports game rather than a game where you're trying to score points.
