SCi acquires the interactive rights to Reservoir Dogs

SCi Games Limited (SEG), one of Europe's leading publishers of computer games, today announces that it has acquired the interactive rights from Artisan Entertainment, Inc. to Reservoir Dogs. Originally released in 1992, 'Reservoir Dogs' received critical acclaim when it screened at the Sundance Film Festival in January 1991. The director was Quentin Tarantino who has since developed a cult movie following around the world.

Reservoir Dogs is about a gang of six thugs using codenames, such as Mr Orange to protect their identities, who carry out an armed robbery in LA on a diamond store. But the plan starts to fall apart when the alarm is tripped and the cops show up within moments. Five of them manage to shoot their way out and make it back to a warehouse rendezvous where it becomes apparent that one of them is an undercover police officer – but which one?

Reservoir Dogs will initially be released by SCi on Sony Playstation 2 and Microsoft Xbox. The game design will remain faithful to the original movie with gamers able to play all the key characters, including the infamous Mr Blonde. There will be the opportunity to take on the role of key policemen, plus take part in large multi-player games. As well as significant amount of combat action involved in the heist itself, which is described in the movie as a "bullet festival", the game will also include a number of highly charged driving escape sequences.

SCi (SEG) was founded in 1988 and is one of the leading games publishers in Europe. It produces titles for Sony Playstation 2, Nintendo GameCube, Microsoft Xbox and PC formats. Previous SCi titles include hit games such as Carmageddon, Thunderbirds, The Italian Job and Conflict: Desert Storm. The Group has one of the fullest product pipelines in European gaming with titles like The Great Escape, Futurama, Richard Burns Rally, and Desert Storm 2.

Jane Cavanagh, Chief Executive of SCi commented: "SCi has considerable experience in developing successful computer games based on strong movie plots, such as The Italian Job and The Great Escape. Reservoir Dogs has a remarkable following within the gaming community. The whole company relishes this exciting opportunity."

Amorette Jones, Artisan Pictures' Executive Vice President of Worldwide marketing added, "What SCi has been able to do in the gaming arena with other film titles encouraged us to tap one of Artisan's key licensing properties and turn it into a unique gaming experience."

Reservoir Dogs: Tarantino's Cult Classic To Make Gaming Debut

Eidos Interactive, one of the world’s leading publishers and developers of entertainment software, part of SCi Entertainment Group Plc (SEG), today announces further details for Reservoir Dogs™ on the Xbox™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and PC, releasing in autumn 2006.

In 1992 an unknown director released a film about five total strangers, teaming up to commit the perfect crime. The heist went wrong, people were killed and they smelt a rat. This is the premise for one of the most esteemed and duplicated directorial film debuts of all time. Based on Quentin Tarantino’s cult classic and staying true to the original plot and chronology, this intense third person shooter follows the progress and planning of that famed heist, filling in some of the blanks left from the film: What happened to Mr. Blue and Mr. Brown? Where did Mr. Pink hide the diamonds? What actually happened at the heist? These questions and more will be answered as the game unfolds.

“We are proud to be working with one of the most original films to be released in our lifetime on a gaming format,” said Helen Lawson, Brand Manager, Eidos Interactive. “RESERVOIR DOGS will appeal to both movie and gaming fans, and offers an unprecedented opportunity to play through the events of the movie and fill in the gaps.”

Featuring the full, iconic soundtrack from the movie, the super sounds of the seventies brought to life including; ‘Little Green Bag’ and the unforgettable ‘Stuck in the middle with you’, play as all of the characters in this violent version of the film.

RESERVOIR DOGS will be released on PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC from autumn 2006.

RELIVE THE RESERVOIR DOGS EXPERIENCE Background

Reservoir Dogs was released in 1992, the first movie written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. Whilst not a huge success on its initial theatrical release, the film soon became a cult classic on video & DVD and is now considered one of the most influential cinematic pieces of its generation.

The Film

Reservoir Dogs is about a gang of six thugs, brought together to carry out an armed robbery on a diamond store – their identities are closely guarded, masked behind colored codenames (Mr. Blonde, Mr. White, Mr. Pink, etc.) The plan starts to fall apart when the alarm is tripped and the cops show up within moments. Four of the robbers manage to make it back to their warehouse rendezvous but it is quickly apparent that one of them is an undercover police officer – but which one?

The Game

The game gives you the opportunity to play through the events of the film - leading up to and following the break down of the heist - from the perspective of each character. You get to experience those parts of the movie that were only suggested, delve further into the world of Reservoir Dogs and find out what happened at the diamond store. How did the Dogs escape the cops at the heist? How did Mr. Blonde get back to the warehouse with Marvin? Where did Mr. Pink stash the diamonds? Did Mr. Pink survive?

RESERVOIR DOGS BANNED IN AUSTRALIA - Eidos Statement

"In response to RESERVOIR DOGS being refused classification in Australia, we feel that it is unfortunate that fans of the film will not get the opportunity to play the game in Australia when it is released in the US and Europe later this year, and we will fully comply with the Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification's decision. The game remains faithful to the cult classic film, directed by Quentin Tarantino, and as such, is an ultra-violent third person action game and the OFLC's rating system does not have a suitable age classification for this."
