Staying true to Majesco's re-release roots, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure is a faithful port of the SNES original, although space constraints forced Majesco to omit the original Pitfall that was hidden in the 16-bit version.

That's a small loss, though, considering that the main game looks even better than the SNES original, mainly because the GBA can display 511 different colors in character mode. That's almost double the SNES's maximum of 256 colors.

Harry's lush jungle virtually breathes with life. The play control can be an adventure in itself, with Pitfall Harry Jr. taking his share of unintentional pratfalls. Patience and practice are virtues when surviving this particular jungle. A control oddity makes it too easy to cycle to one weapon while powering up another.

Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure for Game Boy Advance is a jaw-dropping example of GBA's ability to deliver beautiful graphics. Controlling Pitfall Harry Jr. -- son of the Pitfall Harry from the Atari 2600 game that the SNES game was a sequel to -- you must venture deep into the South American jungle in search of adventure and treasure. Complex puzzles and challenging boss battles become more and more daunting as you progress further into the game's 11 vibrant levels.

Filled with secrets and tests of manual dexterity, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure is a classic adventure which looks better than ever on Game Boy Advance.
