Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus

aka: Abe '99, Oddworld: L'Exode d'Abe
Moby ID: 3077

Abe is back in an all new adventure - Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus.

When Abe shut down Rupture Farms in his first adventure, he created a shortage of a vital ingredient used in the Glukkons' most profitable product: SoulStorm Brew. That vital ingredient is the bones of his kinsfolk, the Mudokons. And as everyone knows, you can't make a decent brew from bones alone! Only Mudokon tears taste this good at a price that's right, which is why the Mudokons are being used as a whole new workforce of slaves at the SoulStorm Brewery.

Abe's friends are being electrocuted to keep those tasty tears flowing . . . and unless our loin-clothed friend can rescue the Mudokons, they'll be tortured forever!

Use the farting one's new gaseous abilities to infiltrate the SoulStorm brewery, rescue the Mudokons and destroy the brewery forever. To help you, Abe can now not only fart, he can possess his farts and then use them to blow things up!

Abe's Exoddus is the first game to feature genuine emotions: Mudokons can be happy, manic, spiteful, or suicidally depressed - and Abe has to snap them out of it by hugging, begging, or even slapping his friends into shape!

Abe's world just keeps getting odder!

GT INTERACTIVE SHIPS MORE THAN 500,000 UNITS OF 'ODDWORLD: ABE'S ODDYSEE' FOR PLAYSTATION WORLDWIDE

Award-Winning Title Debuts in Five Different Languages Simultaneously

New York, NY, September 18, 1997 -- In one of its most significant product introductions to date, GT Interactive Software Corp. (NASDAQ: GTIS) is shipping more than 500,000 units of its new highly anticipated PlayStation title, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, to retailers worldwide. The game will be available in five different languages - English, French, German, Italian and Spanish -- simultaneously throughout the world.

Acclaimed for its visually gripping and immersive game-play experience -- dubbed A.L.I.V.E. (Aware Lifeforms In Virtual Entertainment) -- Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee is the first of five titles developed by Oddworld Inhabitants that is available tomorrow for the Sony PlayStation, and later this fall for personal computers. GT Interactive is supporting the title with a multi-tiered $10 million global marketing program that includes a national television campaign airing now and through the holiday season; extensive print advertising; full Internet support; pre-sell, point-of-purchase and direct mail retailer initiatives; and cross-promotions with Sony and MTV.

"With our launch of Abe's Oddysee not only are we introducing a ground-breaking game, but we are building the foundation for a flagship GT Interactive global entertainment franchise," said Ron Chaimowitz, president and chief executive officer of GT Interactive. "The size and scope of our marketing campaign reflects our commitment to this first title and to growing the Oddworld universe of properties as well, as we continue to expand our portfolio of original entertainment software products." "Since Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee is our first title, it is certainly satisfying to see the overwhelmingly positive response it has received from both consumers and press alike," said Sherry McKenna, chief executive officer for Oddworld Inhabitants. "We are pleased to introduce Abe and bring the world a dynamic, new game-play experience."

Last year GT Interactive acquired a 50 percent equity interest in CA-based Oddworld Inhabitants, which provided GT with exclusive global publishing rights to Oddworld software titles for all media, including PC, consoles, print, merchandising and online vehicles. Press Release (Playstation)

Digital Dialect has just completed the conversion of Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus from the Playstation to Windows. This time, the Glukkons are mining ancient Mudokon burial grounds to get bones to use in their new "Soul Storm" beer. Abe must stop the desecration of his ancestors, save the other Mudokons, and discover long buried secrets to fulfill his destiny. There are quite a few improvements and new features, including flying sligs, and commanding multiple Mudokons, who you must find in different areas and bring together to perform different tasks. The other Mudokons also have emotions now, and you must get them in a response mood by talking to them, patting them on the back, etc. Also, you can now save the game at any point, even when Abe is in midair!

Oddworld: Abe's Exodus

When last we saw Abe, he'd just rescued ninety-nine Mudokons from RuptureFarms and struck a serious blow to the Glukkons of the rapacious Magog Cartel. Once an ignorant, happy floor-waxer, Abe now found himself a hero to his people. You might think Abe had earned a vacation... ...but that was before he fell on his head and had a vision. Three restless ghosts let Abe in on a shocking secret...

Rupture Farms was just one of many slaughterhouses the Glukkons are using to exploit the Mudolons. Even worse is the SoulStorm Brewery, where super-addictive SoulStorm Brew is made from the bones of dead Mudokons mined from Necrum, the ancient Mudokon city of the dead.

Abe being a schmuck--uh, hero--set out across the desert with five friends to find Necrum. When the game opens, Abe and his pals have snuck into the Necrum Mines.

Your mission is to destroy the Mines by sabotaging the boilers that power the place. You'll have to find your five riends, too...but keep them away from SoulStorm Brew. One slug of that stuff and they'll get sick, be no use to anyone...unless you can find a way to heal them. And how do you do that? I bet those three restless ghost might have an idea. They're probably hanging around their tomb. If you find the ghosts, maybe you can get them to confirm the rumor that Scrabs and Paramites are running free in the Vaults of necrum.

ODD things are happening at SoulStorm’ Brewery. It seems that the greedy Glukkons are using Mudokon tears as a key ingredient in their best-selling beverage. SoulStorm’ Brew. And they'll stop at nothing to get them, for torturing the Mudokons is their preferred lifestyle! Once again, it's up to Abe to save his race, with just his loin-cloth, chants and wits. Not to mention a bad case of gas. Sound ODD? Welcome back to Oddworld.

Possess Glukkons, Sligs and Scrabs too!

A WORLD WHERE ABE CAN POSSESS HIS FARTS AND BLOW STUFF UP!

Happy, depressed, spiteful, manic or suicidal?

MORE MUDOKONS… WITH REAL EMOTIONS.

GameSpeak for most enemies!

ODDER ENEMIES THAN BEFORE… LOOK OUT FOR FLYING SLIGS!

New & Improved QUIKSAVE’ Feature… Save ANYWHERE! ANYTIME!
