Melvin, our hero, has a tough time in his everyday life: His schoolmates sneer at him for being dreamy and unworldly, and while he is happy in his dream worlds, reality always harshly pulls him back. One day, however, he lights up a candle and discovers just how much magic can hide in a flame. With the help of Fenny, an elf, and the mysterious Mr. Teeth, he travels through time and space, confronts his inner fears, and lives through surprising adventures.

Jorog, the annoying janitor, Jonas, the librarian, and Daphne, the spinster – these are just a few of numerous, colorful characters populating the world of Everlight.
