Capcom's armored adventurer has never looked better.

Few video game veterans can stand up next to Mega Man's impressive 13-year career in the industry. He first started raging on robots on the original NES in 1987, and since then he's starred in 15 games for Nintendo systems. Just when we were beginning to think that Mega Man might miss his big break on Nintendo 64, Capcom announced plans to release Mega Man on Nintendo 64 this September.

In addition to the hi-tech weaponry and extreme explosions which have always been a staple in Mega Man's repertoire, Mega Man 64 will also include a mix of role-playing elements as well.

Mega Man will be able to roam freely in 3D environments, solving puzzles and blasting enemies in a quest to discover the famous Hidden Legacy treasure. Capcom plans to include plenty of secret passageways and the biggest bosses Mega Man has ever encountered.

Hands-On Mega Man

Nintendo Power Source recently had the opportunity to play an early version of Mega Man 64 at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. It was great to watch Mega Man perform in full 3D, creating huge explosions in colorful environments. Unlike Mega Man games on other next-gen platforms, Mega Man 64 was not flawed by annoying polygon tears.

To successfully strike an enemy while running through the environments, Mega Man is able to strafe to the left or right while firing his weapon. This motion is currently a bit awkward, but Capcom still has plenty of time to tweak the play control. A manual camera control system ensures that you can always find the best view of the action.

When our test drive was complete, we walked away from Mega Man 64 with a strong desire to get our hands on a completed version of the game and start blowing stuff up immediately. Nintendo Power Source will provide more screen shots and information on Mega Man's N64 debut as soon as our hero is suited up and ready for battle.
